[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My first posting. I am disappointed with the restrictions on the size. 250 pixels is pathetic. I doubt that I will continue to use this site.

Hello John and welcome to TrekEarth. I hope you don't give up, I had simular problems posting photos when I first started. You can post photos up to 800 X 800 pixels as long as they don't exceed the 200kb maximum. I had to play with the "options" when saving JPEG files until I got the right compression ratio. So it's not as bad as it seems at first. On the FAQ section here it says:
"My photo is too large to upload. How can I reduce it?
You may edit your photo in a photo editing program like Photoshop and reduce the length, and then save it as a jpeg using a compression level such that it is less than 200kb. If you do reduce the length of the photo, you probably will want to sharpen your photo using Unsharp Mask."

I hope this helps, I'd love to see more photos from the area you've just posted. The stripes of color on the rocks are amazing. Good Luck and welcome again.

John,
Nice badlands overlook shot.
Don't give up on the size thing, follow Lori's advice to get it sorted out. As you will no doubt have seen, many photographers on TE manage to post stunning images within the file size and dimension limits.
Regards
Colin

Hi John,

welcome to TE. Yes i face the same thing when i first posted my first picture didnt know how to have it at 800 pixels wide within the 200K file size limit! You select to save the picture using Photo software at 800 pixels wide and reduce the image quality (compression rate i think in some other software) which will then make the file size smaller to less than 200K.
Your picture here DEFINITELY can be very much larger than what you have posted and I am sure it will look fabulous! even now it already look great even at this small size. Maybe you would like to repost it again using Lori's adivce..
TFS,
LC
