Assalammualaikum Latiff,
I would probably be seeing the same thing you did if I had gone then in 86.
It's always a good idea to leave something that you can't do much now until the time when you could. I have a few photos that were just too much of a rogue years ago but now, just about anything CS2 or CS3 can fix.
As with your Mt. Rushmore. Personal opinion, I would rather go without those tourists in the shot. Imagine the lonely stretch of road going into the bend. A feel of desolation on a granite proportion but on a bright day.

Hi Latiff,
Excellent shot of this famous monument. You really did a great job scanning this photo. I've scanned thousands of pictures but never was able to get such a result. I really like the POV. I've visited this area in 2002 but never saw WASHINGTON from this angle.
