[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I drove from Portland Oregon, where I live, to Omaha to see my sister in 1992. I took a northern route, passing through Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, checking out some of the sites in Western United States.

I stopped at Mt. Rushmore, which was pretty cool. I like this photograph best, because it's a shot you don't often see, wide enough to see the whole mountain in which the statues have been carved.

This picture was taken from the side of the road, as you head out of Mt. Rushmore. I looked up, spotted this view, jumped out and shot.

I ran this image through neatimage to clean up some of the noise inthe sky, then selected all but the sky and sharpened it up. I'm not sure if it's the best crop or not. If you can do better, please do post a workshop!

Excellent encompassing shot. As you said, this is different because you see the whole mountain and more (the rocks on the right are wild - like an abstract version of the carved heads).

You were so lucky to be there on a very beautiful clear day - your picture is very sharp (I assume that this is film, not digital) and the details are very crisp.

I kind of like this crop, but a tighter crop to have a panoramic effect right about the tree top on the foreground and right above the monument heads may also work. It is just a matter of preference.

Hey Rob, I think this is great crop. I like the framing also. It is easy to see other faces besides the four primary ones. I like your framing very much and the composition also. The balance between sky, rock and trees is appealing. I think that your sharpening technique left a halo effect along the border of the sky, and the faces seem a little over exposed.

Great Shot Rob..

Cheers
