This is the Rotunda in the Ohio Statehouse (Also known as the capitol building). The center is a 29-foot skylight. In the center (light blue) is a 2.5 foot handpainted reproduction of the Seal of Ohio that was in use when the rotunda was built in 1861. Unfortunately it is not the original, but a replication for which school children across the State raised funds for in a penny-drive.

About the statehouse:
Construction began in 1839, but would not be compleated until 1861. There was actually a 7-year halt during construction, during which time the grounds was used as a pasture. The ground floors were actually built by prisioners from the Ohio Penitentiary. Its design was detailed after buildings in ancient Greece (popular in the 1800s because of the birthplace of democracy in Greece). The building itself is built out of limestone from Columbus.

The capitol is open to visitors to roam, get a tour, or just visit the gift store.

you will show ohio´s from the outside, too?
well seen & captured, thorsten.

Hello Amber,

Une impressionante image graphique avec un centre d'intérêt extrèmement fort !
Une belle image !

A+

Dominique

Beautiful coloured image, with an excellent graphic effect and bright, sature colours.
Well done, I like the strong light coming out through the center of the image.
Very interesting and detailed note also.

Hello Amber.
I understand your problem choosing between the two views. The workshop is very original, placing the painted seal off to the top right with the different stripes radiating out like the rays of the sun. Now, the psoted version is a lesson in symmetry. Beautifully handled and such remarkable colors. There is very little bleeding in the glass high above and all of the detail is wonderfully retained. I think I side with the posted shot.
Very good indeed,
Chris.

Hi Amber!

Saludos, Paula.
