I took this photo with my old Fuji FinePix S2 Pro camera, my first digital camera, and an excellent one for its day (isn't it ridiculous how short the life span of new technology is?). This photo was taken in 2004, not 2006 as the metadata states. My wife and I visited some friends in Lexington, Kentucky; famous as the breeding ground for famous race horses. Cincinnati is an easy one and one-half hour drive north of Lexington. I chose this beautiful fountain in Cincinnati, Ohio as the theme for the new year: "Angels". I don't believe in new year's resolutions, but I will try to maintain a more spiritual path this year, rather than the more materialistic one.

The big inspiration for this theme was created by the loss of loved ones that we all have faced and also due to the marvelous vocal group that my wife and I came across while watching a public broadcast for our local PBS television station recently. The fabulous vocal group is "Libera", a group of highly talented singers: boys who attend vocal schools in south London. Yesterday I purchased their DVD album "Angel Voices" which was performed live in May of 2007 at the St. Pieterskerk Church in Leiden, the Netherlands. Many of you are probably already familiar with this group, but if you haven't heard of Libera yet, I scanned the DVD cover of "Angel Voices" and am posting it as a WS photo. This WS photo is not my photo. It is simply a scan of a DVD cover. The photograph for this DVD album cover was taken by Paul Mitchell, not me.

Hey Stan,

An impressive image, the lighting and the clarity are both great, so is the motive and the building background, nice job with framing.

Kudos.

Enjoy.

Hello Stan,

In this exquisitely conceived, flawlessly implemented image, the composition, perspective, colors and resolution are all first rate. Happy New Year, and warm regards from Virginia,

Bulent

Hi Stan,

This is beautiful. I love the colors and the flow of the composition and I am not bothered at all that the sides of the fountain are cropped. Interesting juxtaposition of the flowing water with the stronger lines of the office building in the background. So nice to have you back on TE more often...

See you again tomorrow.

Cheers!

Bob G.

Very nice nighttime fountain shot. I love the way you were able to capture the light and the water movement. TFS.

Hi Stan,
A nice clear shot with the old Fuji which did a very nice job here. The clarity of the fountain and the exposure is spot-on. And although the framing is tight, i like the overal composition...very nice.
Wishing to a very happy 2008...
Henk

Happy New Year Stan -

Capturing this during the blue really makes the image pop. With more available light you were able to work on the water to get it veil and produce a nice effect. Well done!

Thank you for sharing.

John

I repeat my best wishes for you and your family

Hi, Stan,
Nice catch of this fountain at night when so beautifully lit!
The image is neat.I bet, the place is less charming in day time.:)
Yes, time of spirit has come.

Stan,
Superb exposure in this night shot.
Great water texture, beautiful colors.
I like this one a lot,
Regards,
JB.

This is a beautiful image Stan. The way the light acts on the water, combined with the slow shutter speed is most ethereal. The blue/grey tones of the building behind make an excellent background.
I hope 2008 is a better year for you and your family.

Hallo Stan,
Beautiful fountain and very good night shop. The picture is very well composed and I like the contrast of old and modern style here. Also I like colors on this picture - gold, green, blue and white - very nice contrast. Very good night shot, Bravo!
With BEST Regards from Russia,
Arthur

Hello Stan,

Nice work on the exposure on this night shot. Details in the shadows were well kept and this without removing the atmosphere of the scene: which is not always easy. The back lightning put in evidence the water spray and the contraste between the yellow of the fountain and the blue of the background is nice to my eyes.
I like your comment about the short life of technology. As I work in electronic chips world, it is something I know well. However, even if a material is made obsolet by a new one, it can still be used at it was already OK before. It is why the datasheet must be carefully read at before buying to be sure the camera will fill the needed today criteria. It is why I am still using my EOS20D, even if I start to think to change ;-)

Yves.

Excellent light for this picture, and an interesting contrast in style between the architecture of the fountain and that of the modern building in the background.

All the best,

Emmanuel

Hello Stan, you are a master at knowing how to shoot pictures with imo difficult lighting conditions.
This is a fine example of your expertise.
It is a lovely composition. The golden glow stands out and the flowing water is beautiful captured by the spotlights.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi Stan,
Wonderful clarity to this lovely blue hour capture. The fountain really comes alive with the beautiful blending of the gold and blue colors. Stunning reflection in the office windows and the pool below the fountain.
