Photographer’s Note

Young child fishing at Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota.

The lake is named for the famous Shoshone/Hidatsa woman who guided the Lewis and Clark expedition up the Missouri River in 1805. It is the third largest man-made lake in the United States.

Unfortunately, an 8-year drought is bringing the water levels in this beautiful lake to record lows.

The scan of the original slide was quite flat and rather brownish (I'm definitely changing labs). I have attempted to restore the original colors with PShop, but I just can't quite get there... Hope it looks OK on your monitor.
