Photographer’s Note

Shot during the Women's Calf-Roping event at the annual rodeo in Ruthville, North Dakota. Rodeos are an intrinsic part of Western culture, much to the ire of animal-rights activists.

I am posting this as part of my North Dakota series.

Great capture. Really good framing and clarity.

I like:
- the frozen moment, so well caught, and curious that the most interesting face is the human one. Great expression!
- Framing so central, well done!
- Cowboy at the back on the fence. Linked to framing, his position is perect!
- Colour. Yet again I find film to be more natural (or just nicer?)

I don't like:
- The subject. Not an activist, but if we can avoid animals suffering I think we should. Is this sport or entertainment?

Anyway, fantastic image!
