Photographer’s Note
This is the recently renovated "Maltese Cross Cabin" the small ranch home of President Theodore Roosevelt. The cabin is now located behind the Visitor Center.
Theodore Roosevelt National Park
Theodore Roosevelt first came to the badlands in September 1883 on a hunting trip. While here he became interested in the cattle business and invested in the Maltese Cross Ranch. He returned the next year and established the Elkhorn Ranch. Years later he stated several times, "I never would have been President if it had not been for my experiences in North Dakota."
When twenty-four-old Theodore Roosevelt stepped off the train in Dakota Territory in September 1883, he brought with him a keen sense of adventure and wonderment. Today, the park provides an opportunity to learn about an environment and way of life that helped shape Theodore Roosevelt's attitudes and philosophy regarding conservation.
The Badlands Of Theodore Roosevelt National Park
The colorful Little Missouri River Badlands provides the scenic backdrop to the park which memorializes the 26th president for his enduring contributions to the conservation of our nation's resources.

Hi Gerald,
this is a very nice one! This is what comes in my mind when I`m thinking of rural America, love the colors of the trees, these branches were important for your overall composition and the light is very well managed. A beautiful shot, many thanks for sharing!

This is a beautiful rural image: so American! I love how it is almost totally surrounded by trees: some in the background and some used by you as a frame in your composition. We can see the beginnings of autumn in the colouring and the dappled light is lovely.

Hi Gerald,
I like very much the arrangement of the frame, the tree making frame, the background with the colors of the autumn, and the simplicity of cabin. The cleanness of the pic evoques very well this simplicity. It's very beautiful, the colors are magnificents. Thanks!
Greetings,
Angel.

Hi Gerald!
This is a lovely one! It reminds me a little of one of my photos, taken in Kelowna, of a heritage cabin, at the "Father Pandosy Mission". You can find that one in my "vintage houses of the Okanagan" theme. Yours has a lovely balance, with a great texture to the wood of the cabin. Perfect framing, and I am a fan of blue sky, and fall colors. Nice work! cheers,
Steve

Hello Gerald,
An astonishingly very simple house for such a man, this small home is the one of a simple man. I like the way you used the tree branches and the vegetation to create a natural frame to the image. The autumn colors on top of this are enhancing this truly natural atmosphere.
Have a nice day,
Best regards, Christian

Bonjour Gerald,
tu te fais spécialiste de ces photos toutes simples avec des sites toutefois directement enchanteurs, des endroits calmes où chacun pourrait rêver de passer quelques jours tranquilles.
A l'image de cette humble demeure.
Jolies couleurs.
Best regards.

Hello Gerald,
A fine composition of this delightful little cabin nicely framed by some lovely toned vegetation. The textures and warm tones in the wood are beautifully rendered. From the little I have read about Theodore Roosevelt he seems to have been a most interesting and resourceful man. Thanks for sharing this memento.

Hi Gerald,
The rugged little log home stands out brilliantly against the lovely autumn colors surrounding it.
The light here is generous bring out striking details in wonderful sharpness.
The future president was living in much less luxury than he grew up in.

Most interesting to see this cabin the bears such historical sense and value to it. Well done in your informative note about this photo.
This is a great TE that tells us something different. I had been to South Dakota and Mt Rushmore but never knew about this place.
