...."Fort McPherson National Cemetery-2"....
"For him who shall have borne the battle and
for his widow, and his orphan." --Abraham Lincoln,
Second Inaugural Address, March 4, 1865.
The Avenue of Flags is presented three times
each year on Memorial Day, Independence Day
July 4th, and Veteran's Day. This is a very peaceful
and quite rural setting, just 3 miles south of the
very small town of Maxwell, Nebraska, USA.
Fort McPherson site is one quarter mile
southeast of the cemetery. It is marked by
a Granite Monument erected in 1928.
It says "To perpetuate the site of old Fort
McPherson and the Oregon Trail - the fort
made possible the first white settlement in
Lincoln County located here and known as
Cottonwood Springs - Fort McPherson was
established February 20, 1866 and disbanded
June 30, 1880.
This ends my series on "Fort McPherson National
Cemetery" and "Fort McPherson"
Thanks to everyone for looking in.

A very worthy image, I can almost feel the emotion as if being there myself. The Flag stirred the patrioticism in me, I have lived here so long that the sight of Red White and Blue make me proud. In this case there is a sense of sadness to the atmosphere, I almost feel like I shouldn't put a smiley face on here but if worth the points.
It's a great shot if it can evoke emotion in the viewers. Very nice colors, good contrast and saturation. good sharpness and clarity with nice composition. Thanks Larry.

Independence Day July 4th, and Veteran's Day, a pity for the victims, that this day must exist. This is history.
This picture have a good feeling of silence the white gravestones and the American flags care for an intimate atmosphere.
Very well done, TFS.

Thanks for sharing this wider perspective of the final resting place. I like the good lighting and tall trees with colorful flags in this shot, The sky is brilliant and very well framed. Warmest regards.
