Photographer’s Note
I found this abandoned farmhouse while exploring the countryside around Anderson, MO. While there's nothing really significant about the house itself, I guess the reason it struck me is that I noticed just how small it is, and the chimney right in the middle. What a contrast to the McMansions we see going up everywhere today. Some family lived in this house and ran a farm. The previous winter had been especially harsh, and I thought of the people who had lived in this small house, going about their chores and coming inside to warm themselves by the fire at the base of that chimney. I suppose it drove home for me just how much our lifestyles have changed over such a (historically) short period of time.

Hi Micah,
This farmhouse sitting empty and alone is a very moving composition. I do wonder what happened to the owners. A fellow in Norway, Pablo Minto, has posted abandonned farmhouses

I agree with the idea that there WAS a family and a story that goes with the house and the property. Someone walked away with a great deal of sadness and a Rich history that fills the holes in the walls and answers the questions that are created by NOT knowing. Nice work on the photo.
A few years ago we drove from the East side of Oregon to Central Oregon (long, lonely roads, even for Oregon) but we passed MANY old (empty) Homesteads; places that really made you wonder.....
