[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the St. Louis Arch. It commemorates St. Louis's role as the gateway to the American West. Folks heading west from the American east would tend to go through St. Louis on their way to starting a new life.

St Louis is broken in two by the Mississippi river. The arch is just on the west side of the river. The city on the east side--a separate governmental entity--, which is in Illinois, is East St. Louis.

this photo was taken from a moving car and through the window glass, it was a bit chilly that day as i recall.

Hello Tom -

It's good to see you get away from the ocean for a while. I have been here and this is one difficult subject to capture. You image is very nice and the lighting is complementary. I do like the glint of light on the upper reaches of the arch. I am not sure about the building corner in the lower left of the image but I am sure there was no way to avoid it. Shooting the image in landscape was a good idea because the bit of river gives the viewer a bit more sense of place than if this was shot in the portrait mode. Well done on a difficult subject.

Thank you for sharing

John

I just saw the moving car note, nice grab shot.

Hello Tom.
Not excellent quality of this photo but yet very interesting. I like the compo, meaning not putting the arch in center but also letting us see the Mississippi and a part of a bridge is very good. Colours are ok. Good photo for a snap shot on the move!

Per

Tom
The clear blue sky with a total lack of cloud seems to give this image a surreal perspective to it and make the total look incredibly tall compared to the bridge and buildins behind it.
Regard Colin

In a moving car it couldnīt be better!
A good POV and beautiful blue sky !

Nivaldo.
