Bono at age 21... It was clear that he had something special.
This was an interesting night. I believe the promoter (a radio station) charged two dollars admission, and the hall was not sold out (it would have held about 2,300). I was able to sneak a camera in and get reasonably close. The band had released two LPs; they played all the songs from both records, then -- as the crowd wanted more -- they played some of the songs a second time!

Wow, this is awesome!!! Now this is going back, I absolutely love it!
Back in the early 80's I was more a fan of the Top 40, didn't really have a big interest in music per se. It wasn't until a friend gave me a tape....yes, a cassette tape, haha....of Joshua Tree that I had really every paid close attention.
Long story short, that's all it took, one listen and I was instantly hooked and have been ever since! Love 'em, hate 'em or all together indifferent...there's no denying the talent and contribution to the music world. Aside from any political commentary, relief efforts, or social causes in general...these boys know how to play. What a terrific shot Russ, and a real treat to see them from so long ago. Two dollars to get in the show?? Are you kidding me...you can't even get a sniff of the parking lot these days for amount!
So neat to see this in black & white too, such an artistic flare with the conversion, which goes hand in hand of course to the entertainment industry...art in all forms.
I may be a bit more of a "metal head" these days, but U2 will always be my #1 favorite!
Thanks for taking me back to simpler times, this has really put a big smile on my face today! :) Much appreciation for the dedication!
Friendly wishes from Az.,

Thanks for your warm words, yes, my big US trip is finished yesterday. I am full of emotions from this journey.
Best wishes from the Autumn cool rainy gloomy Ural town,

A very special documentary picture, apparently from the bottom of your rich archive. A very good music capture!

You never stop surprising me with the people who appear in your gallery, and I would never have guessed Bono would pop up. You must be so incredibly proud to have such iconic shots of such iconic people in you collection, not to mention the memories of these events themselves. Beautiful surprise to see here, and another brilliant choice in B&W.
All the best

Gidday dear Russ
Wow, what a flashback. As a U2 fan, this is pure gold! Jaysus look at Bono's mullet! He must cringe when he sees that hair do. Excellent B&W and a fantastic, historic and decisive moment.
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day
PS: heheheh Penis Cola...still sniggering

a well captured scene from this very early concert, I like very much the candidness it transpires and the simplicity that looks so heart-warming and meaningful to the eyes of a viewer that has seen so much of the group in the meantime. I like very much the monochrome and the way the light is absorbed (or emitted:) by the artists. I find this picture touching, apart from the sentimental value it may have for you, I think I see the marvellous future of the band in Bono's eyes. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
Ourania (from Leros, Dodecanese:)

I love U2 and I love this one too. Bono looks great on the stage.Excellent composition, good presentation too. Very well done, TFS.

It is hard to recognize that is U2, one of my favorite band, and I don't have many favs. Amazing to see before they were stars. Cool shot and a memorable experience for sure. Imagine now one must be luck to even get a tickets paying top dollar to be this close. I was suppose to go see them a couple of years ago and they cancel the show due to Bono's spine injury.
