Photographer’s Note

This is another view of the train trip on the Amtrak Empire Builder across the USA from Chicago, Illinois to Shelby, Montana at the beginning of our Canadian Rockies vacation last year.

There is no smoking on Amtrak trains. That doesn't bother me at all since I do not smoke. Well, an occasional cigar, but not all the time. It makes it a lot nicer for the folks who don't that's for sure, but it can be agony for those that do. Some of the stops on this route were of a duration that allowed for smokers to get off and indulge their habits. This is one of them - Winona, Minnesota. They embark and disembark passengers and change out some of the staff on the train. It takes about 20 minutes to get all this done, so I guess that is two or three cigarettes worth of time. It was also enough time for me to take my camera out and set up a tripod to get this shot of the passengers coming on and off the train by a crowd of the smokers. It was about 7:58 or so in the evening, so I caught some of the blue hour, as well.

This was a great way to start our trip. I'll be posting shots from that vacation randomly as time passes, so if you are interested in it, take a look at my travelogue from time to time.

Tomorrow is Monday, so I'll have the Stormy Monday Blues again.
