Waves Explode Into River Mouth
Mouth of the Baptism River as it feeds into Lake Superior
Tettegouche State Park
Minnesota
Tettegouche is a beautiful state park about an hours drive from Duluth.
On this day Andrew and I hiked down and sat on the rocky beach at the mouth of the Baptism river as it drains into Lake Superior .. It was a windy day ... we pretty much had the place to ourselves .. on a couple occasions a family would come down and decide the weather was a little rough for them .. Andrew had a blast throwing rocks into the surf as it crashed through the river mouth.
Tettegouche has some beautiful cliffs and rock formation on the shores of the Great Lake .. miles of hiking trails .. some beautiful waterfalls and lakes .. It is one of my favorites of the eight state parks that line the North Shore of Lake Superior .. (so far - I have not gotten to them all yet) .. on scenic highway 61 that follows the shore up from the city of Duluth to the Canadian border.

Hallo John!
A very interesting picture, especially because of the agitated water. One nearly can hear the water flowing and the rush of these waves. I actually do not like b/w pictures (the world, thank God - isn't black/white) but here it works. This must be a special place...
Greetings from autumnal stormy and grey Germany!

Hi, John.
The amazing low perspective in combination with low shutter speed provide for superb dynamics on top of an exciting view. B&W in this case works perfectly well for me. Very well seen and presented, TFS!
Have a good day, my friend. I'll be seeing you.

Hi John,
This is a very strong b&w presentation. Not many would thought about doing this in b&w, but is works for me. Strong contrasts are essentiel in such a landscape and in combination with great lines in the composition and the slow shutter you created a stunning landscape...i like it a lot.

Hi john,
The long exposure gives a silky-textured motion blur that contrasts well with the the sharp detail of the stone; it gives the river a real feeling of motion.
I've been to your website several times now and I really like your collection. The website is very attractive as wello although I've never found a place to log-in. Perhaps because I don't know how to disable pop-up blockers unless IE cues me.

Hi John, I like this one a lot. The b/w choice makes it specially beautiful I feel, it enhances that feeling of speed you got here, it gives it also a special mood. All the elements mingle together in harmony. Well done!

Bonjour John.
Cette photo est très artistique avec cet impression d'espace et de mouvement donnée par l'importance du ciel et le flou du premier plan. Le B&W est bien choisi pour rendre l'essentiel.
Amicalement,

Olá John, spectacular effect of motion in FG from the low shutter speed and superb b&w presentation. The lines of the composition make an original picture - I like the way the foam of the waves are framed right in the center of the composition. Great artistic shot. Congrats.
have a nice sunday,

Interesting work John where the river seems to run upstreams in this soft setting of the long shutter time. BW also works well here with a fine result as presented. Good work

very interesting photo, John, I like a lot how you have composed it using the clouds and rocks as a frame to focus the attention on the crushing waves. the relatively long exposure works really well to "thicken" the water, excellent work.

Hello John,
This is indeed very dramatic, specially in b&w which gives it a timeless aspect. I have not done any time exposure shots with flowing, dynamic water scenes, but I've admired yours. It will be a good lesson for me.

Hi John,
I know it isn't a première, but you have very few B&W's in your gallery, so this is a nice surprise. It's a gorgeous image, quite dramatic, very dynamic and masterfully composed, with a perfect balance of blur and sharpness. It's amazing how the sense of motion and depth, which are almost dizzy, are produced not only by the blur and the placement of the river flow, but also by the placement of the hills of the BG and the clouds. Great work, indeed, very inspired and achieved!
Regards, José.

Hi John
You captured well the movement of the waves, it creates an attraction forward.
The contrast is goos, as it should be in a B&W image.
Wish you and Andrew a good year of trekking around.
