Photographer’s Note
Minnesota Morning
Boulder Lake, Minnesota
Hi to all .. hope you are are well.
This is an image that has grown on me in a major way in the last few months ... It was a moment of opportunity. I had taken some predawn and sunrise images at nearby Island Lake. After packing up and returning to my car I decided to explore a nearby road that ran between Island and Boulder lakes. I saw this scene go by my passenger side window ... turned the car around and shot this out my car window ..
It is a typical morning scene in the North Woods of Minnesota. A common nickname for Minnesota (printed on the car license plates) is the "Land of 10,000 Lakes." Apparently the actual count is 11,842 .. enough for the avid photographer to capture 1 new lake a day for more than 32 years .. I am way behind schedule ...

Hi John,
This is the day of happy and triumphal returns! First feather, now you.
I reserve the use of "breath taking" for special occasions, but this one is surely one of those. The view, the compo, the warm colours, the extraordinary technical quality of both versions... That mist glowing with the sun... Such a sense of peace... Fabulous!
I hope you and your family feel fine in your new home. I have already seen that apparently the landscapes of Minnesota hasn't less to offer to your new toy and us than Colorado mountains.
Regards, José.

Hi John,
A great view, what a mood, what a great atmosphere but also what a great area as you describe it. More then 10.000 lakes, man that would be a challance to photograph them all.
The large version looks wonderful, warm yellow toning makes the whole picture very serene and peaceful...great view, well done.

Spectacular, John. It is good to see you back, and what a magnificent photograph to marks your return. A panoramic format would have to be the best manner in which to show this golden beauty. The pristine mirror-like surface of the lake helps to delineate the fine resolution of the grass and other growth in the foreground. Incidentally, Isn't this the area in which you grew up?
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi John,
Wonderful color and detail in this perfctly framed shot. I especially like the light through the mist.
Larry always talked about paddling the Boundary water canoe area, but my neice beat us there.
As to Andrew, sounds like hoe for him is where-ever his people are - That's certainly true for me.

Hi, John,
hope all is well with you and your family. What a fabulous morning shot! Not being one to ever be up quite that early, to me, this is AWESOME! From the grasses in the FG, to the mist on the water and the sun just peeking over the horizon. Marvelous depth, lovely soft color and an oh, so peaceful scene. Beautiful work! Many thanks and warmest regards,
Shelly

Hi John,
A nice moment for sure, and going for the elongated panoramic framing here was the right thing to so so that we can enjoy it even wider and larger.
Have a nice day JY

Hi John,
dreamy, meditative and so soothing... wonderful lighting, wonderful view... you seem to feel perfectly at home in your new... home! I'm happy for you. Terrific compo, my compliments.
And thanks for passing by Castle Valley lately, I greatly appreciate. Everything's fine this side of the world, except for the fact I'd rather be on... YOUR side of the world! He, he!
Have a wonderful day, Mr. President. I'll see you soon.
Hugs,
Fulvio.

Welcome back John. It seems we made our return together! ;D This is indeed a beautiful image with the gorgeous low light, subtle colours and morning mist. The inclusion of the reeds in the foreground wworks very well in the composition. I wish I could see the large version in one go!
You'd better get working on the other 11,841 lakes!
Hope you are all comfortably settled in your new home.

Olá John, beautiful soft golden tones all over. Nice touch of mist around the sun. It looks even better in your new site, the first photo that appears is exactely this one and I got confused for a split second ;-) Quite impressive site, I have to say - the visual impact is great, with the images filling the whole screen. After admiring some fantastic landscapes, I got specially attracted by the amazing wildlife captures. Congratulations.
take care,

Hi John,
a moment of piece and delightful light, with the lake as main thing below the sun a superb choice and great and warm, large and small. The line of reed in the foreground is a good starter to open the view.

Hi John.
J'aime beaucoup ce lever de soleil sur ce lac. Les couleurs y sont très belles et la brume s'élève doucement au-dessus de l'eau. La version large est magnifique.
Bon week-end !

This is definitely one worth turning the car around for, John! The mist, the golden sun, the glassy smooth water, the grasses in the foreground--they all come together to say "morning" really strongly. I think it takes a lot of extra creativity to shoot good landscapes in flat land, and you've shown that here. Regards, Ken.
