Photographer’s Note

Once again Autumn has returned and with it the warm days with its light blue skies and grey clouds that give way to cool and crisp nights. Already the first few trees have started to doze off as they prepare to shed their leaves for their long winter slumber. The colors of the season and the overall atmosphere, really, make it my second favorite season. And they say three things go into making fall color; a warm and wet spring, a mild summer and cool autumn nights. So far we've had a warm and wet spring and cool nights. We did have a hot summer, but with two out of three I hope that the new season will be at its most brilliant in a few weeks. So here is a post from last Autumn to usher in the new autumn.

This house is the kind of house in the kind of neighborhood that I like. The streets are lined with giant tree after giant tree in front of and behind great old homes. And when those trees go to sleep and shed their leaves it leaves the lawns and streets and sidewalks buried in golden and red leaves.

This random home is in the Heritage Hill neighborhood of Grand Rapids. It's a neighborhood that consists of some 1200 homes that represent every style of domestic American architecture from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. You can find great Georgian homes, neo-Classical, Craftsmen and many more styles. There are even two homes by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

And more importantly the place is full of trees. Big trees as old as the huge homes and older, perhaps. It's an amazing neighborhood especially in this, my second favorite, season.
