Police closed US-23 Northbound at the I-96 interchange on Monday after a major accident when a cement truck overturned attempting to change freeways, spilling wet cement all over the freeway ramp and trapping the driver. The University of Michigan helicopter was called to the scene and it landed right on the freeway! Traffic was backed up for miles on the busy freeway, causing delays of up to 3 hours. The actual accident is not in this photograph, but off to the right on the on-ramp to I-96. For some reason, police decided to close the entire freeway, probably for safety reasons and to allow the helicopter to land. It was a surreal scene a few miles down the freeway where cars were stuck in traffic--people were wandering around outside of their cars in the sweltering heat, and some decided to take matters into thier own hands by crossing the grassy median into southbound traffic. With police concentrating on the accident a few miles up the road, many cars drove illegally on the shoulder and in the median. The accident was cleared a few hours later and traffic was back to normal shortly thereafter.

Taken with my pocket-sized digital camera.

Your composition is very good with the man on the bottom right. Too bad there is not more going on though. A good photo none the less. JP

Interesting. Well captured and also a good composition with good colours.
Well done.

Well done! You live to the old adage "f/8 and be there."

Thanks for sharing

This is a good shot of the response to the scene. I really like how athe fire trucks are lined up to the helicopter. And I know that choppers very well. I lived right under its final approach path to the Med Center when I was up at Burlsey. And when I moved to the apartment I could often watch the helecopteres fly northward from my window high above northern Washtenaw County. The colors here great and it's a nice and sharp image. I just wish we had the concrete spill here. Were you stuck in traffic on the overpass getting onto the freeway? And it's good to see a new one here. Hope all is well and you're enjoying the rest of summer.

I like how everything "fits" into the shot, including the officer in the lower right.

Very interesting journalistic piece. The placement of the trooper at the extreme right bottom corner is very clever especially that he is the one having eye contact with your viewer.
