Photographer’s Note

This is another view of the University of Michigan's Law Quad. More information on the complex can be seen in my previous post. This view is looking across the central courtyard looking north toward the main entrance. The turreted tower and overall plan is based on architecture of older colleges such as Oxford and Cambridge but everything is built for modern life. On either side of the tower is more of the Lawyers Club, specifically student housing. Beneath the arch are busts of university presidents on the corners of the vaults.

All of My University of Michigan photos up until now have are all within this frame or just beyond it. To the left is the dining hall and corner of my previous photo. The Law Library is directly behind me and the fall color photos (Fall Colors 1 and Fall Colors 2 ) were both to the left of that red building through the arch.

This 1000 foot stretch or so is basically where all my classes were the last two semesters. In post processing I corrected perspective and increased contrast to +10 in PSE.

A great architectural shot, Paul. The detail and clarity of the turreted tower is excellent. Nicely framed with the large tree on the left, which also help to de-centralize the tower. Well seen. Good note.

Very nice shot. I like the symmetry of everything but the size of the two trees. I also like how the path leads the eye up to the building. There's an amazing amount of detail visible given how much of the building you were able to capture.

I work in a law school, and our building was built in 1999. It's great to work in a new, high-tech building, but to me, this is what academia should look like.

Beautiful architecture caught well here in winter, esp. since the tree would block it later in the year. Good detail and color. Great title for the view. Maybe a bit too bright sky, but easily overlooked here. I like the links in your note!

Once more a photo showing a building as cut from Edwardian or Viktorian times. And if you hadn't told me, I'd sworn it was England. You've made a great capture of it's royal presence - it's clear in finest detail (I think I see somebody walking to the left, in the yard on the other side of the arch!). The image radiates tradition and prosperity. Warm colors well balancing the snow and the bare trees. Well composed - centralized and yet not!

L'allée nous conduit tout droit à l'Université. L'on peut admirer sa très belle façade et son corps principal orné de bow-windows (oriels en français), traversé par une voûte cintrée.
Très beau bâtiment. Les couleurs sont très bien rendues. Image bien composée.

The alley leads us straight to the University. One can admire his very beautiful frontage and his decorated principal body of bow-windows (French oriels), crossed by a curved vault. Very beautiful building. The colors are very well returned. Quite made up image. Very well Paul. Good note of accompaniment.

Dear Paul, great instructional note. The first I see someone giving a 3D impression by linking to other photos. Good idea. The picture is very symmetrical and that symmetry is spoiled by the trees. Couldn't you take care that they grow the same ;-) ?

Nice solemn picture of this retro-architecture university building.I like your symmetric composition, the different sized trees give it something extra. Colours and shaprness are spot on. One wonders how many feet walked this path in the years. I like your links in your note very much. In this way you created a small pictorial documentary.

Very good composition -- I like the way you lead us into the building.. I took a look at the rest of the Law School photos, and it's quite an interesting expose' .... I never thought of taking a camera inside a Law School library...

I think you caught the symettry very well, PAul. Only the tree is ruining the symmetry but it is unavoidable. I am sure it gives a beautiful view in summer with the tree. The building looks very old,but in a good way not in a bad way. Thanks for sharing these photos...
