'Waist Gunner' station on the B-17 bomber "Nine-o-Nine." These defensive guns would help to drive off the attacks of Axis fighters over the skies of Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific. By themselves, the guns are not effective, which is why the bombers would fly in special formations to maximize their defensive potential.

This is the second photo from the interior of the touring "Nine-o-Nine," one of the handful of airworthy B-17 "Flying Fortress" bombers that still remain today.

Sepia effects done for that 'historical effect' in Photoshop.

The curves of window frame and the belt are nice contrasts to the straight barrel. Outside and inside light is hard to combine, maybe the barrel can be made a bit darker in PS if one is careful.

Thanks for showing the detail of how the barrel passes the glass. I am quite interested of old airplanes and WW II history myself and this little thing has bugged me. I have been wondering if they had to have a hole in the window to use those guns. But the crude way these planes were built I donīt think that would have had much effect on the inside climate ;o)

I like the composition of the picture. I like the contrast. Agree with the previous comment of the outside and inside light being difficult to combine but still a very good effort.

i always have a fascination with the B17 waistgunners in their high altitude gear ( my other hobby being action figures and customising a B-17 gunner was once a hot project)

very good image of the waist mounted 0.5 :)
