The staging area was, of course, sheer coincidence; the bank parking lot was the best place to pen up cattle. This image was shot during the 2003 "Mike Murphy Cattle Drive," an annual event celebrating the time-honored traditions of Kansas City. Despite the fact that it is, indeed, a cow town, Kansas City, Missouri, is remarkably avant garde.
During the Cattle Drive, which is sponsored by a local radio station, the cows are released from their holding area, and are driven by cowboys on horseback down a mile or so down a main road, while people watch and cheer from the sidewalks.
Taken with the Nikon CP5k, colors and levels are unadjusted. Slight softening done in Photoshop. |
