| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| My dad and I went on a little road trip while I was on break, and we went by the North Bend of the Ohio river. I decided to take a couple photos. It was a pretty dismal day, well not to me, but it was overcast, so the picture looks pretty bland. Plus it was winter, so there was no green things anywhere. Anything I could have done to make it better? |

Hi Rory. First of all, you're wrong - there are so green things! The first thing I noticed was the lichen on the tree trunk. Then there is also some green grass on the left bank of the river, and maybe even some autumnal colours on the right bank. What we need to do is make the most of what we have. So start by looking at the histogram in your image editing software. I use Picasa, and would recommend it. The histogram shows that you can afford to boost the highlights by quite a bit. Then we increase the colour saturation. Finally, apply just a little sharpening. The result is shown in the workshop - hope you like it! If you do this on your original full-size image, omitting the sharpening until after you've re-sized it for TE, you should get even better results.
Cheers,
Colin.
