Beaver Creek or V-bar-V Ranch Petroglyphs

This image shows the main petroglyph panel at Beaver Creek about 16 miles(26 kilomenters) southeast of Sedona, Arizona USA. Unlike the Palatki Heritage Archaeological Site northWEST of Sedona it consists mostly of petroglyphs rather than pictographs. It is also a Sinagua site and both are located in the Verde Valley of central Arizona.

Further information about its location and the difference between pictographs and petroglyphs is found below.

Though Beaver Creek is a Sinagua site it is very different from Palatki's pictographs. It has over 1,000 petroglyphs and is so unique that a petroglyph style has been named in it's honor - The Beaver Creek Style.

Like Palatki it has people, animal and symbolic rock art drawn on it's cliff walls. The main difference is these are petroglyphs and not pictographs.

Individual petroglyphs and their meaning from this site will be further investigated in later TrekEarth uploads.

Location of Beaver Creek petroglyph site
It is just 2 miles(3 kilometers) off of Interstate 17 coming up from Phoenix, Arizona USA at the Hwy 287 turnoff to Sedona. Instead of going left you turn right and drive two miles to Beaver Creek.

Difference between petroglyphs and pictographs
Pictographs are drawings made on rocks using locally available pigments mixed by the artist and painted on the walls. Petroglyphs are drawings using tools to chip the drawing out of the rock itself. Beaver Creek rock art is petroglyphs; Palatki rock art is pictographs.

have you tried a close-up shot focusing on one of the elements rather than the general view?

Hello Steve,
An excellent petroglyph from the midwest of Indiana at Sedona, lol.
Great image with excellent colorand detail of the carvings. The rock appears to be a piece of petrified wood by its color and the sembance of bark peeled off at the edges.
Great work here, and TFS...
Steve

Excellent shot, Steve.
Color, lighting and overall detail are absolutely spot on. I'm really looking forward to your next uploads annex notes (I've been reading your reply to ilghiz).
Keep them coming.
You have a great day,
Fulvio.

Hi Davidson,
Good clouse up to an historical rock, distinct image and detail to show the petroglyphs, completed note, thanks for sharing.
Ally

Hi Steve !
The picture series about the prehistoric graffiti is of great interest. I like especially this one that is really fascinating. It is very well detailed.
So, the evidence of ancient civilizations are not only in Rome.
Congratulations
