Photographer’s Note
It has been a long time since this steel was forged or the coal chute was used, and Michigan City has seen a lot of changes since then. For me, this early morning scene evokes the smells, colors, sounds, and feelings of an earlier time in my hometown: a time when the rails ran hot with commerce and the nearby steel mills produced the rails and girders upon which the country was built.
