Photographer’s Note
This was taken before July 4th (Independence Day). A local company had stuck a plastic flag in everyone's lawn to advertise.

Hi Laura,
I like this one because it tells us about daily life in an American town.
I think it deserves a bit more saturation (especially the flag in the background). It´s a pity that there are the parking cars in the left ...

I will refrain from making any political comments, although the picture could itself be seen as a political comment. However, I am not sure what your picture is trying to say. If it's about patriotism then the context is a bit anodyne, a bit vague. It could be small town anywhere. You seemed to have used auto focus and the focus seems to be way past the flag, leaving the flag in soft focus. Thus the eye is carried by this and by the composition - the dominant, directional pathway - beyond the flag and comes to rest at about the second tree on the left, where nothing is happening. It's a pity about the burn out on the roadway and the car. I would have focused on the flag and let the background go into soft focus (bokeh)It might have been good if you had waited for a patriotic American family to come along in the middle distance, to provide relevant context. Actually the composition, with the diagonal pathway and the flag placed to the right is nice and the green of the foliage is delightful.
