Photographer’s Note
The Main Quad joined the Illinois campus in 1905 and at that time was surrounded by cornfields. As time progressed, university buildings were placed around the area to make the open area 203 feet wide and 940 feet long. From the south end of Foellinger Auditorium to the Illini Union in the north, the quad is the center for most student activity at the University of Illinois. It practically lies in the center of campus and is split between the towns of Champaign and Urbana.
