Photographer's Note

Pictured here is one of the sculptures that was on display at the Botanic Gardens in North Dublin in September and October 2013.

The exhibition invites sculptors both known and unknown to submit works for display throughout this 50 acre city garden. Over 120 individual works were on display between the gardens and the visitors centre. While many were quite large, obvious and easy to spot, others were blended quite well into their environments and I missed dozens of them! While a number of the exhibits were expected in a large public garden being in the shape of flowers and plants, many more were very unexpected including the gigantic crocheted jellyfish inside the Victorian glasshouse, and the area where it appeared to be raining multi colored knitted donuts.

Each sculpture on display takes into account their specific locations and circumstances i.e. their context.

Unfortunately, as I photographed a number of the sculptures I did not think to photograph the details of the name of the work or the artist and I also neglected to pick up the catalogue on sale in the visitors centre, so I have no idea what this piece is called or who made it. The one thing I do know is that I find it quite weird. This is a rather selective view of the sculpture which in its entirety is a complete circle of these strange figures.

On the day in question, I had met with Rosemary (SnapRJW) and her husband, and we had decided to visit the gardens. I had no idea the display was on so the weird sculptures were a bonus that day.

Thanks for looking.
