Photographer's Note

The valleys leading into Forollhogna National Park are characterized by a number of old summer farms, the oldest among them dating as far back as 1600s.

Here we see a former summer farm now converted into a vacation and weekend place. The establishment of the national park made places like this rise in value, since the protection status prohibits building new cottages or extensive renovation of older ones.

----------

Forollhogna National Park was established in December 2001 as the 19th national park in Norway. The total conservation area is 1514 km2, comprising a Iow-middle alpine mountain plateau in the surroundings of Mt Forollhogna. The park is situated in the northern part of Hedmark and the southern part of Sør-Trøndelag counties, where the ground is dominated by limestone sediments which create a nutrient rich soil well suited for plant growth.
