Whatever happened to this young couple, walking along the Bosphorus on a sunny day in late August 1974? Did they eventually marry? Are they maybe grandparents today? In any case they should be around 60 today.
This is from the Asian side of Istanbul in the district of Üsküdar, looking north towards the brand new Bosphorus bridge. This very first bridge across the Bosphorus was opened the year before, in 1973, and connects Ortaköy on the European side with Beylerbeyi in Asia. Now there is since long a second bridge further north, and a third one is planned.
This was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Another fascinating photo from the past. Looks like a windy summer day. The man seems to be sporting a long looking collar...slightly reminiscent of the look in the west at that time perhaps? Very interesting indeed, and of course one does ponder on their fate. The information on the bridge is interesting too. Fine work as always, warm regards,

Photo excellente !!
1976, certainement une époque plus paisible, ou les gens prenait le temps de vivre..
Je suis pas turc, mais je ressens beaucoup de nostalgie dans cette photo.
Ah on n'est devenu trop sophistiqué! Aïe..

Hello Gert, again a very nostalgic shot from your impressive archive with the special tones and colours of 70s. The young couple reflect the wearing style of those years. It was a good idea to include the "brand-new" suspension bridge of the Bosphours at the background. Keep sending such photos. Warm regards, Tolga

Oh, lovely work this! I absolutely love that seventies feeling here. The moustache, the look, the trousers...a fascinating trip in time. Thanks for going through your archives and coming up with gems like this one, Gert. I really appreciate this kind of upload. Excellent scan quality, btw! The colours remind me of those view master things, so seventies again...

The fashion here reveals the age of this capture. Bell bottoms!! But otherwise a very good picture, an excellent scan. I am really surprised to see these treasures that you have been hiding for so long time.

I really admire your scanning job. The quality of this picture suggest that it could have been taken yesterday. Wonderful composition, colours and lighting. TFS and have a nice weekend!

Another interesting photo depicting a couple of the 70s who are now called grandpa and grandma. The children were too in happy playing mood. The atmosphere seems calm and relaxing except those choppy water. Fine colours and despite the scanning, the image is very clear and good sharpeness. As always a good note. Congrats, TFS

concering the treasures I agree to your brother!
This is another very fascinating document of daily life and an excellent scan. This image is telling an interesting story of the "Zeitgeist" when life was not as fast as it is today. TFS!

Wonder how much has changed in Istanbul, one of the fastest growing cities! Interesting to see the flared trousers of the couple, the raging style of the 70s! It would be interesting to know the whereabouts of the couple, as you said! The part of the city & the bridge creates a good backdrop!
PS : A fantastic scan result!

This old photo of Istanbul, which you took the year when I married, preserves its original quality due to a good work of scanned.
It is a romantic scene and the new bridge on the Bosporus in background complements itself graphically with the interesting architecture of the Asian shore of the city.
It is a nice photo, in an excellent work.

Again a much beautiful photo. The couple, the two boys playing some sort of game, the architecture in the background, the sunlight - all are wonderful.
Amazing composition and scan.

Hello Gert. Have just come across your gallery and think I will enjoy looking at your pictures from the past. It does make you wonder about the people in the shot, particularly the couple here. Great quality from a scan. Chris

Besides definite aesthetic value, this picture is of great historic value indeed. It is nice to see how the city and its residents looked like in 1974. Thanks for the excellent presentation of Istanbul's architecture and daily life, how they were 36 years ago!

i can see that it was a really different place, in a different time. Nevertheless, i can imagine how modern Istanbul must have been compared to other parts of Turkey even in 1974. The couple Walking at least does look very modern. Thank you for another look into the past.

this is a wonderful picture. I love this interesting and rewarding view as a daily life setting, you have captured two lovely scenes, two stages of life: the children's play and the young couple's precious time together. There's a marvellous interaction of foreground and background, the people and the tree are nicely placed across the frame. Light and colours are rich and attractive and there's an irresistible nostalgic feel. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
