Trulli on Via Giuseppe Verdi, Aia Piccola, Alberobello, Puglia.
I took rather a lot of photographs here. The other side of the road had poshed-up trulli, mostly selling souvenirs; in Aia Piccola, most of the trulli were lived in, or at least had been modestly improved for dwelling purposes. I liked the drama of monochrome in this photograph and have decided to forego the deep blue of the sky, helped by a polarizer. It would be nice to pretend this was shot in monochrome, or at least that I had monochrome in mind when making it; the closest I can come to that claim is that I realised I had so many images, some would surely end up in black and white.

uno splendido b&w per un luogo veramente originale.
Il contrasto è molto elevato, ma questo mi piace.
Ottima la nitidezza e bello il gioco delle nuvole bel cielo scuro.

Whatever the reason for black and white, it's a stunning result. The stark tones of the white structure loo excellent against the blacks and greys and the shadow helps the effect greatly. The wispy clouds in the sky look almost like smoke rising from chimneys, you composed this really nicely to create this effect.
Thanks as always

At first this is a fantastic capture in sepia
then this shot brought to me memories from
my last trip to Italy In Alberobello
a wonderful place in Puglia
here lights and shadows play together
I love those beautiful characteristics
and architectural traditional details

Now this is the sort of monochrome photograph which I love and I am sure that you did exactly the right thing by converting it to black and white.
Your composition is excellent but it is the delightful and strong tones and contrasts which make this such an appealing picture. The whites are brilliant white and the blacks are stunningly black yet we can still appreciate full details in the deepest shawows and also in the very brightest parts of the image. The sky is beautiful (that polariser did its job!) and the textures in the old stonework are amazing.
Lovely light and tones, bang-on exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

like this! The B&W tones and shadow play are just superb at giving this image impact and natural appeal. Masterful light management and an irresistible POV make this one fine monochrome presentation. Well done!

Hi Will, very good picture in black of these interesting buildings in this place, nicely captured in this wonderful composition between sun and shade, with good sharpness and nice light and white. Excellent job perfectly done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.
Good night and happy week.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

I agree with your decision: B&W fits well this topic. Once a photographer said (I can't remember his name) that colours on a photo is like a useless chatter.
Best Regards Neighbour! :)

I would never have said that a black and white image with this motif can be compared with a color one, but you've reassured me!

A fantastic capture of these unique shaped beautiful old buildings. Good choice of monochrome, I do not miss any colours except perhaps the blue of the clear sky. Excellent detailing on the buildings. Great shot, thanks for sharing.

yes, I can feel the deep blue of the sky here! I can even feel the polarizer:) Sure black and white makes it more dramatic especially with that big shadow present, so I don't mind you having switched off the colors:)
I just find the crop a bit tight for this perspective, don't you think so?

While most photographs of Alberobello and the trulli have a very high picturesque level, this one has a strong dramatic touch.
The sharp contrast between light and shade, the wispy clouds that seem to rise from behind these trulli and the choice for black & white provided this feeling.
Perfect sharpness. Beautiful alternation of roofs and chimneys.
Best regards, Paul

I really like this!
I find the large shaded area, in the f/g, a real teaser, compelling me to look deeper towards the cone shaped roofs and tall chimneys.
I love your us of B&W, it makes us look more closely and conjure up a bit of imagination!
Have a great day,
CLODO (35370) 2014-04-03 2:10
the B&W is suitable for this picture, you played with the sunny areas and shadows to describe the matter of the walls and roofs thanks to a low sun. The evanescing clouds seem to issue from the houses tops.

I haven't seen many photos of this place in b&w! It's a very good one, the pov, the light on the facades and even the sky - those clouds look like smoke coming from the houses. A good quality shot, I've never visited this place!
adramad (48472) 2015-01-20 7:26
Certainly the structures of these houses have some resemblance to the one I show, but this gives the feeling that still inhabited; while the town that I show, is currently a museum outdoors.
Your composition is magnificent, and the B & W gives that timeless feel, which comes in handy to the composition.
Very well seen and well taken.
Have a nice day.
