A traditional church in Zurich,in the street called Limmatstrasse.Here some information about this wonderful city and the churches of Zurich.

Zurich:

ENG:Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zurich. It is located in central Switzerlan at the northwestern tip of Lake Zurich. While the municipality itself has approximately 390,000 inhabitants, the Zurich metropolitan area is an urbanised area of international importance constituted by a population of nearly 2 million inhabitants.Zurich is a mixed hub for railways, roads, and air traffic. Both Zurich Airport and railway station are the largest and busiest in the country.Permanently settled for around 7,000 years, the history of Zurich goes back to its founding by the Romans, who, in 15 BC, called it Turicum. During the Middle Ages Zurich gained the independent and privileged status of imperial immediacy and, in 1519, was the place of origin and centre of the Protestant Reformation in German-speaking Switzerland, led by Ulrich Zwingli.Zurich is a leading global city and among the world's largest financial centres.The city is home to a large number of financial institutions and banking giants. Also, most of the research and development centres are concentrated in Zurich and the low rate of tax attracts overseas companies to set up their headquarters there. According to several surveys from 2006 to 2008, Zurich was named the city with the best quality of life in the world as well as the wealthiest city in Europe.An impressive number of museums and art galleries can be found in the city, including the Swiss National Museum and the Kunsthaus.Zurich also hosts one of the most important theatres in the German-speaking world.

Zurigo) είναι η μεγαλύτερη πόλη στην Ελβετία (πληθυσμός: 371.767 το 2007, πληθυσμός της ευρύτερης αστικής περιοχής: 1.007.972) και πρωτεύουσα του καντονίου της Ζυρίχης. Ο πληθυσμός της μητροπολιτικής περιοχής φτάνει τα 1,68 εκατομμύρια. Η πόλη είναι το οικονομικό και πολιτιστικό κέντρο της Ελβετίας (η πρωτεύουσα της Ελβετίας και έδρα της κυβέρνησης είναι η Βέρνη). Σύμφωνα με έρευνες το 2006 και το 2007 προσφέρει την καλύτερη ποιότητα ζωής στον κόσμο.To όνομα της πόλης (Zürich) προέρχεται πιθανόν από την κελτική λέξη Turus, υπόθεση που στηρίζεται στην ανακάλυψη ενός τάφου του 2ου αιώνα, πάνω στον οποίο αναγράφεται η λέξη Turicum.Η Ζυρίχη εκτείνεται γύρω από το βόρειο άκρο της ομώνυμης λίμνης και τις όχθες του ποταμού Λίματ. Το ιστορικό κέντρο, η παλιά πόλη, βρίσκεται λίγο βορειότερα από το σημείο που ο ποταμός εκβάλει στη λίμνη.Η ιστορία της Ζυρίχης ξεκινά από την εποχή της Ρωμαϊκής Αυτοκρατορίας, όταν λειτουργούσε με το όνομα Turicum ένα σημείο είσπραξης φόρων στον ποταμό Λίματ. Η πόλη αναπτύχθηκε το Μεσαίωνα και το 1351 έγινε το πέμπτο μέλος στην ελβετική συνομοσπονδία (που εκείνη την περίοδο ήταν μια συνομοσπονδία ανεξάρτητων κρατών). Ήδη από το 19ο αιώνα αποτελεί το σημαντικότερο οικονομικό κέντρο της Ελβετίας.

Churches in Zurich:

ENG:Grossmünster (great minster) (near Lake Zurich, on the Eastern side of the Limmat River in the old city), where Zwingli was pastor; first built around 820; declared by Charlemagne imperial church

Fraumünster (our lady's minster) first church built before 874; the Romanesque choir dates from 1250–70; Marc Chagall stained glass choir windows; (on the opposite side of the Limmat). During 2004 the Fraumünster was fully renovated. During this period the installed scaffolding went above the tip of the tower allowing a unique and exceptional 360° panoramic view of Zurich.

GRE:Το μεγαλύτερο τμήμα του πληθυσμού είναι Χριστιανοί, κατανεμημένοι σε διάφορα δόγματα. Παλιότερα το πολυπληθέστερο χριστιανικό δόγμα ήταν ο Προτεσταντισμός, σήμερα προηγούνται οι Ρωμαιοκαθολικοί. Υπάρχει επίσης μια σημαντική κοινότητα Εβραίων (περίπου 5.000), ενώ τα τελευταία χρόνια έχει σημειώσει μεγάλη αύξηση ο αριθμός των Μουσουλμάνων (20.000 στην απογραφή του 2000)

Hello Chris,
a nice church with good texture well shown. The view with the leafless tree is very pleasant and pretty.

Il devient de plus en plus difficile de photographier des monuments en toute quiétude. Les éléments contemporains environnants empêchent de restituer la majesté de cette architecture. Il n'en demeure pas moins que la présentation est réussie.
Très belles couleurs avec beaucoup de détails.

Hi Chris,
I like the tender colors in this shot, the trees and the sky look very beautiful, the architecture's great and the light's very soft.
But I don't think this point of view is a good one. The vertical format from some distance off would suit it much better. The top of the bell tower wouldn't have been cropped then though I'm not so sure about the car, it's cropped hood doesn't look good here either. Quite a tricky frame:))

Hello Chris,

You have captured this church with lots of details. I wish the tower was not cut. I can still Imagine the whole church. The modern buildings in the back contrast well against this old architecture. The trees on both sides give a natural framing. The colors are warm and the sharpness is excellent.

The trees are framing well the church. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the acrhitecture of the church. It would have been better to include the top of the bell tower. It is clear and sharp.

Un cadrage bien rapproché qui permet de voir de fort près le détail de l'architecture de cette très belle église dans des couleurs très naturelles . Dommage que tu aies du couper le clocher de l'église mais tu n'as peut être pas eu le choix

This is really not much of a historical church, there are far older and more interesting churches in Zurich.

very beautiful architecture. I liekd thes addornments we can see in the façade and its curious style of architecture. Nice light and sharpnes. I guess it woiuld be better if you had took this image in a vertical format, catching the façade and the tower.
