Zermatt is a cute little town in the district of Visp in the German-speaking section of the canton of Valais in Switzerland. Its claim to fame is the Matterhorn. In fact, the village was "discovered" by mid-nineteenth century British mountaineers. The most notable of these was Edward Whymper, whose conquest of the Matterhorn made the village famous. Now Wikipedia claims that the name of Zermatt derives from the alpine meadows, or matten (in German), in the valley. The name appeared first as Zur Matte ("in the meadow") and became later Zermatt. (According to my limited German, the preposition zu means to - maybe German speaking friends can clarify this.)
The entire town is a combustion-engine car-free zone. Almost all vehicles in Zermatt were battery driven and almost completely silent. I am uploading a photo of the station square to the workshop. (The coordinates to the map are for this square.) I wonder if the electric vehicles in that photo have been replaced by more modern ones like the Nissan Leaf.
We were in Switzerland in August 1997. We had visited Mom & Dad in their summer house in Bodrum. That was the first year Bodrum International Airport (BJV) was operating. We took the Turkish Airlines direct flight from Bodrum to Zurich and travelled by train in Switzerland.

Hello Murat. Chalets of Zermatt. Yes, everything here is very typical Switzerland. But it is also the style of Europe's mountain regions of the Alps. Fine composition. The inclusion of the flowers in the foreground is perfect.

Smart choice of a vertical frame with the fg hollowed out log making a nice flower garden. The rushing stream with its whitewater makes a pleasant change from the usual darkened alleyway. The bridge is a nice focal point in the mid distance. Excellent sharpness and a pleasing diffused light with good sharpness. Tfs!

To my best recollection, When i was in Zermat in 5/1980, my hotel room was two houses to the left of this creek, remember the sound of water steaming downhill at night.
Beautiful location, and no less fine picture of the unique built village.

Great place to wander around this pretty little alley with all the buildings along it being traditional timber Swiss chalets and specks of red make such attractive and colourful subjects. It's nicely composed with the mountain backdrop putting it in its setting. How lovely that you have captured the essence of what is typically Swiss. Congrats

You're capturing well this place by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the tasteful wooden houses in front of mountain. This town is surrounded by the rich nature, too. And, the red flower in front of fence draws out a peaceful atmosphere in this image.

A lovely shot from your souvenir album ! Those chalets nestled in the valley reflect exactly the atmosphere of this beautiful country of Switzerland !
Everything is there : The stream coming down the mountain, the red flowers in the log on the bridge, the fir trees against the stiff cliff at the back !
Thanks for digging out this cute village for us.

marvelous framing catching the space between the façades, the rock wall ahead and the trunk and its flowers in the FG. I liked these details.
