Photographer's Note

Bamboo rafting on the Yulong River downstream of Yangshuo. Taken from beside the road bridge from Yangshuo to Moon Hill. The bg clumps of vegetation are bamboo, a type of giant fast growing grass. I've added a little saturation & a pale cyan tint to the white sky. The river at left is the Jinlong River. Both rivers are flowing towards the camera.

Hello Chris,

Is this the Chinese equivalent of punting in England?
It looks like a most leisurely and very popular occupation.

I am intrigued by the mist, which was evident in your last shots. Is it climate or polution? Whatever, it certainly makes a strong contrast between the f/g and b/g producing a strong sense of depth. I love the sense of mowement from the rafts and the rippling water. I feel they're going to arrive on my desktop!

Another fine image of those weird mountains in the haze, with some nice flashes of red amongst the people on the rafts and on shore - just enough to catch the eye and provide the highlights. Some very effective and judicious PP work for this one.

The mountains and the trees are framing well the river. The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The point of view is showing the activities on the river. The afternoon light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

I love the colours and calm mood of this picture! It's very well composed with the view of the river leading behind the bamboos to the lovely group of peaks. The view, starting from the first boat, gradually submerges to the distance and the vivid colours gradually fade to the distant peaks which seem almost transparent. Light management is great! The reflections are fascinating. Well done, it's a wonderful photo!

Beautfil scene again with the mist & fog shrouding the karst mountains in the BG. Lot of tourists judging by the number of rafts. Are these made of bamboo or artificial as in Halong bay?. An excellent capture!

We used to do bamboo rafting in my old hometown but not for fun but to transport things. Awesome capture of this beautiful scene. So peaceful. Good dof with nice details. Very well done, tfs.

Hello Chris,
you were lucky with the weather so we can see a lot of activities in the river as at its bank.I like this colourful scene with the lot of people to take a stroll on Bamboo. Crossing the river five years ago the weather was bad and the sky grey,so the quality of the photos were medium.

Hi Chris,

Excellent shot of the people enjoying a day out on the river. At least on this river, it is very quiet with the man power raft. Unlike on the Li River where there are motorize raft it was so noisy walking along the river bank. It totally ruin the beauty of the area with the noise and pollution and worse the people harassing you for business.

The light is great here with warm tone and I guess the winter is not as busy so it looks rather peaceful with good clarity in the air.

those mountains are very famous and appeared in many films in China. That one of the place I must want to visit when I future go to there. How cost the bamboo rafting?
