Neighbours today! Such a modest note - a picture of two old black lamp posts... really, what about the stunning way you have captured the building and the curved line of the lintels and balconies which act as leading lines from the upper right and lead your eye in? What about the great exposure given the light colour of the building which must have played havoc with your camera's metering averages? What about the tonal range of the black and white which is perfect.
Cracking shot Brian... two black lamp posts...whatever!

Excellent choice of black and white to heighten the mood and accentuate the graphical lines of the lamps and the very attractive background architecture. Very well framed and benefiting from a fine range of tones and excellent sharpness. We used to visit Worthing quite often when we lived in Godalming, but I don't remember seeing these fine properties. Thanks for sharing.

Hello BRian ,
You love vivid colors , as I can see on your posts . But you can do an excellent work using B&W . This is the case here . Very god choice . With a perrfect angle of view and remarkable contrasts .

Fantastic B&W with superb tonal depths and contrast. The framing and clarity are both excellent and contribute to making this an arresting image.

un B&W molto B&W ed il risulatato mi piace, bella anche la composizione, le facciate tondeggianti danno sinuosità ai contrasti violenti creando un'immagine forte e piacevole.

This is a truly striking photograph. Of course, we don't see what it was like in colour but I very strongly suspect that it appears very much better in black and white.
The strong lighting and strong contrasts suit this subject perfectly. But what I really love is that, on close examination, we can see the fine textures on those voluptuously curved walls. We can also see every single detail of the railings, windows too and the two tall lampposts hold the composition together perfectly.
An excellent and very striking photograph which again demonstrates your successful quest for technical excellence.

The contrasts are remarkable. The composition is very clever. I love the use of shapes and graphics. The lamp is obviously a very visible element of the photo. The quality is excellent. Bravo.
Have a nice day

What a spectacular image. The contrasts are great and the black sky is perfect for showing the shapes of the buildings. Well taken, very artistic work!

Hi dear Brian
Oh yeah the lamp posts are attractive but it's that wonderful architecture that takes the cake for me. It looks like these apartments have fat tummies! And they remind me so much of the Poirot films. Excellent B&W which really brings out the beautiful clean lines and detail in the architecture. Lovely shot and great light management.

a perfect light to enhance the contrast of this excellent black and white.

I'll add my voice to the chorus here, Brian - outstanding shot, and a really beautiful work of b&w art. Deep and attractive contrasts really highlight the forms, and the way you've arranged the curves of the building and matched them with the lampposts of your title is lovely. The dark nature of the sky creates a kind of graphism with the buildings themselves. Really nicely done.

In these images are my absolute favorite, polarized sky (even if you used the PP and a UV).
It reminds me of my youth in the darkroom. (contrasts and volumes)
The sharpness and color curves as soft and perfect as graduation perspective.
As always your care Dellac omposition, towers to climb.
The two elements of an asynchronous, the house with the roof and the street lamp.

I have been coming to like more and more lately the high contrast black and white images, I I've a real appreciation for this, the gentle curve of the buildings has created some magical shadow effects while the decorative lamps are like inky black spies from the dark sky breaking into the scene, perfect vantage point for the shot too, class.
