The Government Gardens is a popular place for wedding photographs to be taken. Saturday afternoons one can often see several newly weds and their guests milling around posing for the photographers. This little girl was taking her job very seriously and I couldn't resist taking a picture of her.

Hi Rosemary. A photo can't be any sweeter than this. beautifull little girl, so serious and obviously her parents' little treasure. The highlights on her velvet skin (hand, forehead, lips) are wonderful. and the little earing reminds me of Romeo's words when he describes Juliette as a jewel in an Ethiop's ear.I had some Sudanese students who had ebony skin and the smallest bit of jewelery just stood out in all its beauty. Regards. Klaudio.

The light on her face is delightful. Her serious expression is complemented by the existence of a well-decorated umbrella and a large, purple belt.
Was she under a colored glass window?
I wonder if a little bigger framing were possible?
TFS Dear Rosemary.

I saw similar wedding scenes outside the government buildings and gardens in Pretoria. Your photo has captured a lovely expression on her face and the skin tones have been managed beautifully. Lovely detail in all the whites - a very pretty image.
Best wishes, Ann

It is the sweetest girl I've seen!
Picking up the umbrella and that expression of responsibility. You have captured a straight face with those eyes so deep!
It's so cute, a nice shot!

She is so cute and so proud! I like very much the light on her eyes.
corjan3 (1935) 2011-06-01 7:23
A really good image with beautiful colours and contrast. It also is great that you got in so close to your subject, or cropped it so tightly, which gives your subject great presence with her striking face. The umbrella rounds it off very well. A very pleasant image to view.

What a lovely little girl. She seems to be fully alert and paying attention to the wedding or waiting for a cue.
Nard (6915) 2011-06-02 4:16
What a wonderful portrait, I love it! The framing and the quality are perfect, the light gives a lovely softness but also a great sharpness. I like how we can see by transparency the lace of the umbrella.
stevesaba (8021) 2011-06-02 8:30
A gorgeously cute photo, and a profile shot that shows just enough of both eyes to portray her great expression. Well done, very appealing indeed, warm regards,

Un superbe portrait qui a failli m'échapper. Elle est charmante cette petite fille et semble écouter les conseils du photographe avec beaucoup d'attention.
Merci pour le partage et bon week-end.

Very charming portrait of this little girl not only taking her job seriously but I think she's also very proud.
Nice the way she holds the umbrella.
Best regards, Paul

An interesting portrait of the little girl!
In particular I like the way she looks at the photographer through the corner of her eyes...
A fine profile portrait with striking light effects!

And who could resist taking a picture of this beautiful little girl?
You have captured the moment perfectly - her timidity, her desire to do her job correctly and her big eyes so full of wonder.
And technically too, you have managed the light here very well indeed - not an easy task with so much contrast.
magalik (6101) 2011-06-05 13:41
Very nice portrait. I like the fact we see a little the second eye.
The nice and extremely female sunshade gives much elegance to this young girl and the shot too.
Very pleasant to look at all the details.
A shot which would be very interesting in b&w too.
Have a nice week.

We had a wonderful exeprience throughout our trip to Namibia and part of the reason was the warm and friendly people that we came accross along the way.
I love this moment captured of this little girl so serious and all dressed up in her finest for the big event. Great framing with the umbrealla, maybe for my personal taste I would have liked to see her a little bit lighter, but I like the highlights on her face and hand.
delpeoples (48568) 2011-06-07 15:25
No wonder you couldn't resist taking a photo of her: she's irrestible. I like this side-on profile alot. The contrast between her lovely skin and the light tones (particularly the umbrella) are well-seen. The look on her face is adorable, it's good to see that some people still take their job so seriously :)
batalay (33377) 2011-06-09 11:08
The miniature ebony ebony beauty is, and should be, so proud, strutting in her best dress and sun umbrella. The colors, composition and exposure are superb.
jimkil (1684) 2011-06-14 13:45
I had quite lousy weather in Scotland so I have nearly finished posting from there. I think you should do the
Isle of Skye, quite amazing, you have the Old Man of Storr, the Quairaing etc. Also around that way is a town called Applecross. This is the highest road in the UK and on a very clear day you can see over to the Isle of skye (I am told by the locals, it was pitch mist when I went up there). Amazing scenery pretty much everywhere, and the drive to Glencoe is A+. Portree is also a quaint little town.
To your photo, love the very dark skin against her white dress and umbrella. I like the zoo,/crop you have chosen, well balanced highlights which are not overpowering on the face, but enough to pull her away from the bg. I am looking at Namibia seriously, it looks like a great photographic place for landscapes and people.
gmg (4202) 2011-06-16 9:16
Beautiful shot, with a nice contrast and very good use of the available light. It's basically a BW shot with a hint of purple!
The girl is cute and the whole scene is awesome.
devimeuxbe (58557) 2011-07-07 22:20
What a lovely portrait !
Great contrasts, nice glance. It's nice to see pictures from namibia. I have never been there
zanzi (13038) 2011-07-14 12:36
A delicate portrait.
I like how you played with the light to reveal her beautiful face.
I would perhaps have preferred a smaller aperture to blur a bit more the background.
papera (13842) 2011-10-24 14:24
I was going through your gallery and I saw many beautiful photos of Namibian landscapes and places - but unique and fascinating as the colours and the light are, I keep coming back to your portraits and candid shots like this one.
I see a lot of comments form other members - so I'll just say that I am riveted by the silky texture of her skin against the blinding white of her little dress. it's a kind of contrast one doesn't see very often on these pages...

Ce portrait de fillette en tenue de princesse est remarquable. J'aime ce visage sculptural au milieu des dentelles.
