This is famous Whitby Abbey. There are other superb photos of these ruins here on TE. Usually it is shown with facade, sometimes it looks very attractive with the reflections in the small pond. But I like this side view, specially this small round window and nice Gothic windows against the sky. This was my last visited place in 2013 and I was here with Mariusz. Finally after some years of virtual friendship we could meet in person.
In this last day of 2013 a short summary. I visited eight countries this year, not so many, but I spent a lot of time travelling by planes, buses, trains and cars, not so much in boats, but also by them. It was more than 60 thousands kilometers. The most important i met many TE friends - in Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, in Prague, Rome, Istanbul, Dublin and finally in Middlesbrough. I have marvelous memories from all these meetings.
I wish all TE member and their families happy, healthy, prosperous New Year!

Thank you so much for mentioning me and Middlesbrough among such great photographers and spectacular destinations :) It was a pleasure to meet you in person and the meeting with you was definitely one of the highlights of the passing year 2013 for me.
I am really impressed by this photo of the abbey especially taking into account that you did not have the best possible angle available. The colors are saturated so much that it feels more like a painting! I think other people may complain about it. But I like the final effect: very vivid and eye catching. The abbey seems to be so isolated so far away from anything else here.
I wish you a New Year full of exciting trips. I hope you reach all destinations you dream about, maybe New Zealand and French Polynesia among others?
I have a feeling that I will meet you again on another occasion, maybe some TE meeting in a nice photogenic destination so that we try blue hour shots again :)
Happy New Year!

lovely shot of this iconic Abbey ruin. This beautifully clear image sums up its imposition and graceful elegance so exquisitely. Love it!
All the very, very best for 2014 - B.

interesting ruins of Whitby Abbey, the arches are very impressive! You have choosen a good Pov for this shot with an excellent overview of the area. I think the blue sky is a little bit oversaturated and suffers of a halo effect, but it is very eye-catching, no doubts.
Happy New Year to you and your family!

This is a magnificent ruin and you captured it with good colours and fine contrasts. I enjoy watching the blue sky straight through it. It's great to hear you are following in my footsteps by going to Tallinn and Tbilisi. Now you only have 4 or 5 more journeys to plan for 2014. What about Mali, Yemen or Pakistan? :-) Or at least, seriously, Albania? It's relatively close, cheap, beautiful, nice and safe. And not yet littered with tourists.

These ruin is one of the most beautiful ruins that I ever saw.
This silhouette against the strong blue sky makes your picture very attractive.
Also a nice generally picture.
Very well done, TFS.
Nice end of the Year, and Happy New Year.

I have photographed this on many occasions but never, never in bright sunshine! This is lovely!
The thirds composition gives a lovely green/blue photograph, with the focal abbey combining the two. I love how the sky is peeping through, giving a pattern to the structure.
Have a lovely New Year's Eve and a happy, healthy New Year, Bev :-)

Very attractive color saturated view of Whitby Abbey in ruins, yet its main walls still standing centuries later. I am always impressed by the skills of European architecture in the Gothic period for building impressive churches and buildings without our modern equipment.
Best wishes for a great New Year, all year long,
and many more rewarding travel adventures,

Très belle prise de vue de ces ruines. J'aime bien toutes ces ouvertures qui prennent la couleur du ciel. Beau contraste des couleurs. Bien fait. BONNE ANNÉE 2014.

Wyjątkowo malownicze ruiny, eleganckie zdjęcie, takie czyste i jasne. Niech następny cały rok też taki będzie

What a magnificent place :) And what a capture of it, the light is golden and lights up the walls like they are decked in jewels, and I agree, that rose window in a beautiful point in the picture. Love the blue sky behind and your use of thirds in composing the shot, its worked perfectly!
Thanks indeed for sharing this, and all your gallery, and the very best to you and yours in the new year.
Greetings from Ireland :)

Malgo, what a stunning shot of this abbey, on an unaccountably perfect weather day in Yorkshire. I love the three levels of well-saturated color - green, brown, blue, with the sky shining through the ruins. Thanks and happy New Year.

Une belle photo pour clore cette année 2013 riche en voyages et rencontres pour toi.
J'espère que 2014 sera encore plus belle et intéressante.

Very impressive view on this famous Abbey, it stand out beautifully against the blue sky with pleasing deep saturated colors.
Reading your note, I must say that your nickname of "itchy feet" is very apt. I wish I could afford to travel as much as you do.
May the new year bring happiness, joy and health to you and your family and I wish you many more exiting trips for the future.
ChrisJ (93372) 2014-01-02 7:52
Perfect density levels which have given punchy light contrasts and well exposed highlights and shadows. Nice sharpness and superb warm cold colour contrasts between the blue and yellow green grass, and reddish yellow facade of the ruined stone cathedral. Have a great weekend!
Angshu (53966) 2014-01-07 2:24
My warmest wishes to you & all your loved ones for this New Year!
8 trips in 12 months in 2013! Mama Mia...you are amazing!!
What trips have you planned for this year? I think large parts of Africa & Brazil are left in your map as pale yellow...so you must have already made plans!
This is the famous Whitby Abbey made even more famous by photographers. Nice light you've got here which illuminates it against the clear blue sky

PaulVDV (19393) 2014-01-14 13:53
Wow! These ruins certainly look impressive! And beautiful!
I also like the view of the blue sky through all the openings.
The round window on top surely is a beauty.
Best regards, Paul
