"I'm Totally Wired. Totally Wired. I'm Totally Wired. Totally Wired. Can't you see?"
(Mark E. Smith)
Vientiane is the capital city of Laos, situated in the Mekong Valley. It is also Laos's largest city. The estimated population of the city is 200,000 (2005).
Compared to the hectic, bustling capitals in other Southeast Asia countries, Vientiane's deliciously relaxing atmosphere makes it feel like the small town it is.
After you've done the round of temples, the best thing to do here is wander down to one of the riverside beer gardens, kick back with a cold Beerlao - the Lao national beer - and watch the sun set over the Mekong.
Alternatively, you could visit one of the local markets and admire the wiring.
I experimented with levels and color burn on the sky. I hope it's not overdone, as you tend to get carried away with these things.

yes i remember these columns with the thousands of wires on them.I have a lot of photos from this unexpected sight.I cannot understand who they fix it if someone of the wires is broken.A good reportage shot.
Have a nice afternoon,Danos

WOW! Let's hope that pole doesn't blow down in the wind. Mind you it may fall down with the weight. The sky looks great as it has a ominous look to it. If anything it would be nice to see a little more detail in the shadow area of the market stall.

Hi Benny. Very curious and well seen scene. The centered composition gives the poor poll all the attention. Good colors and definition. Good work. Best regards. PAulo

That's the art of photography. Creating a wonderful picture out of an ugly place. Very creative and impressive, congratulations!

Generally, we say: "do not take wires in picture", but here they are THE subject and it's a real life shot of the Far East countries.
Sorry: no more smileys today, you get 2 fancy ones!!

Olá Benny, might be a bit overdone but I understand what you say about being carried away with pp. At least the artwork of wires looks great. Amazing situation, nice vertical framing that includes a piece of life too.

Funny how such an everyday subject can be so interesting. Could you imagine the chaos if that pole happened to fall down?
Great choice to shoot this scene.

My phone and DSL connection is one of these at the left side......
I`m allways fascinated seeing this in Asia and wonder how it works. In Cape Verde it`s simillar, but less cables because less people.
Great composition with these shops and the dramatic sky in the background of this wirechaos.

Nino.

an arachnean composition of this street scene. The opposition between the verticality of the pole and the horizontal roof is very effective.

What can I say here? beautiful and typical Lao city scape? for the people living this is all part of the every day life, for people from the more advance countries, it is a harzard and urgly thing we rather not have to see it. Anyway, a good shot, you managed okay with the strong contrast light between the outdoor and indoor. the stormy sky adds sense of dramma and caos in addition to the wires.
RGatward (20086) 2012-03-14 16:03
Interesting shot from, as you say, one of the most relaxed laid- back capitals in the world.

really like the subject.very interestingly shot.the silhouette of the mesh of wires against the dark grey sky works well.
