Taken at 7:30 am on my first morning in Vang Vieng this January. I was lucky to get this wonderfully clear morning, and it was not to be duplicated in the few days I was there. There is lots that could be said about Vang Vieng. Certainly it is a very beautiful area topographically, and culturally there are many little villages in the area with some of the ethnic minorities also. The town itself is, well, another story: just one more of those backpackers havens gone wild and out of control. Mind you I was young once too. But it is not my cup of tea. Beautiful reflection in the water and really beautiful colors. There is a lot of depth in this photo. The boat, the woods with the small village and the moutains

The fabulous clarity of the morning colours and the scenic mountain range make this a memorable picture. It's amazing to read that Laos has become another tourist trap. It used to be such a closed and remote country. Personally I'll be off to Albania in a couple of weeks. It's nowadays as open as any other European country but still far from a "backpakers haven gone wild", to put it mildly.

Good light management with early morning low sun. Foreground management is good and overall composition is well balanced.

Italian Journalist and Writer Tiziano Terzani used to say "Laos is not a country...but a state of soul!"
a place to visit, to feel, to breath....
as far as the photo is concerned, you were pretty lucky to find such a clear haze-free day...

The mount forms a great drawing with its own reflection, beautifully divided by the line of rustic houses, and the boat is a great element. Good composition, congratulations!

So it's Laos this time... always exotic and intriguing destinations!
Well, this place is fantastic: superb hills, lovely hamlets and a gorgeous reflection which make the composition perfectly symmetrical. You choose well your subjects and as ever the quality of the photo is excellent.
Very pleasant and interesting.

Hello Steve - The clarity of the colours and the quality of the light is beautiful. I've not been to Vang Vieng but have heard about all the madness that goes on there. You were obviously up before the party animals and captured this serene image of river and carsts. Nice shot! Best regards Rosemary

This is superb, one of the best day shots I've scene for a long time. The symmetry, exposition and depth are all top quality. I really like those yellow tones and the boat adds a sense of dynamism aswell as interest. Thanks for sharing and I wish you a lovely day.

A wonderful picture from the Vientiane, good colours and composition. The reflections in the water are adding a special atmosphere to your picture.

A great place to visit, for sure. The stacks of rock towering over the landscape is a great sight. I like how clear and fresh the image looks, especially the rich saturation of blue. The ripple effect is very well captured and I like the balance of the off-centre boat with the row of houses and the rocky outcrops behind. Excellent composition.
