Photographer's Note

Gastown is an area of Vancouver that is a photographers heaven. The architecture is unique, the shops are fun, the bars and lounges are plentiful, the atmosphere is memorable.

Gassy Jack, a Yorkshire Seaman, first settled here in 1867 and opened up vancouver's very first saloon - and I guess you could say the rest is History! Without Gassy Jack Vancouver may not be what it is today. A statue of Gassy is directly to my left - perhaps i'll show that one later on. If you havn't already figured it out, there's a reason why this area is called Gastown! :)

I was here early in the morning for black hour and blue hour shots. As i'm walking around the cobblestone streets - probably the only one of its kind in Vancouver - I noticed this Corner shop. Using my 8-16 mm lens, i got really close to the ground on my tripod and used the distortion of the lens to create this dramatic pose. With the 6 second exposure time, this was initially a Blue Hour photo, but when i converted it to black and white the visual impact was greater.

Hope you like it
Happy New Year!
Craig
