The Devils Marbles are a collection of huge, round, red-colored boulders found in the Tennant Creek region of Australia's Northern Territory.
In the creation story of the Dreaming, the Rainbow Serpent fashioned the earth and then returned to a spot east of the Kimberleys at a place where the rainbow meets the earth. The Rainbow Serpent's eggs fossilised and became what non-Aborigines now call the Devils Marbles. The Aborigines know them as Karlukarlu.

The light and colours here are superb. The gum tree gave this one away as an Australian scene immediately, even in the thumbnail. I like the various types of vegetation and the rock textures and shapes. Good depth of field and pleasing sharpness. Perhaps I would crop a little off the top and bottom, or instead the left and right, because I'm not sure the rather square format is the best for this scene. Pity about the sky being a bit washed out on the right - that's another reason to crop a little from the top, perhaps. Anyway, it's a fine capture of this typical outback scene at the famous 'marbles'.

The light is so beautiful. This is a beautiful picture. Seems quite unreal but amazing.
