Just revisited my late parents' town, that they retired to in 1967. They're both dead now of course, and so is the pier, it seems. This contre-jour shot was made in late afternoon, with the sun already declining, and silhouetting the pier against a silvery sea. The original was already practically monochrome, so I went the whole hog, and then added a touch of blue toning, to reflect the elegaic mood...

There is a fine sense of melancholy in your capture here, of times past when this pier was a place for fun and familes, but that time has now past. The silhouette of the pier creates a mood that its no longer a loved place, and the beautiful sky adds to that. Excellent mood in this, and the treatment of the image works perfectly. Thnaks for sharing this one.
All the best

Yes, there is a sense of loneliness, of sadness to this shot and I don't think it comes just from your notes. A seaside town, in b&w, without people creates that mood.
I like how you have been able to get the pier as a silhouette against the sea, it really dramatizes it. The sky is terrific, the clouds almost hanging as a threat.
My warm regards,

Still on TE, sometimes.
The backlight reveals well the silhouetted pier and yoy get a nostalgic feeling.

Nice string light ! Your management and your elegant work in PP looks great and highlights the pier so characteristic of the British coastline.

This is a very difficult picture for to give comment.
I see very nice elements, but the sky is a little dark Will, this not usual in your gallery.
Nevertheless a excellent composition with the pier in centre of the picture.
Nice photo work, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

It seems the English are mad about trying to defy Mother Nature and build piers into an ocean that does not want them :) but they make wonderful photographic subjects, as this one here has. I love the silvery blue tones here and the sillhouettes work nicely, contrasting so well. A nicely composed and exposed image, good work.
Thanks for sharing, enjoy your week
