Photographer's Note
Taormina Men: When I saw some of ciakgiak’s photos in his Theme “People of Sicily”, I was reminded of this photo that I took in 1972 in Taormina. Every photo I shot then was with my trusty Minolta SRT 101 on Ektachrome film. Thus this photo suffers some from my scan process, but it was fun to dig it up. Thanks, Giorgio for reminding me of the fun times we had taking pictures while stationed in Sicily with the US Navy.

Hi Tim. Glad to have discovered your gallery. I see that you knew back then what a good camera was- my favourite also, the good reliable Minolta 101.I love these little groups of older men who speak, listen and often laugh with such gusto. When I see such photos I try to imagine what sorts of kids they were at school and who was the leader, the funny guy, the awkward one...Great moment, light and colours. Great scanning job. Best wishes and belated welcome to TE. Looking forward to mote Minolta moments. Check my Minolta B&W of Italy if you like. Klaudio.

Hello Tim,
My instant reaction was that this is a good photo but that the colours aren't that great. Then I read the note and understood why. Still, the colors could be improved at least a bit through some PP. But that's a minor complaint. Much more important is the atmosphere created by this meeting of elderly men and the fascination of guessing the topic of their talk. It's equally fascinating to realize this happened 40 years ago.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Tim,
this is a lovely and interesting capture of an animated discussion among friends, I guess it's politics or the economy. It's a delightfully natural scene, very well framed. I like very much the stone wall as background and the sloping street. I think it's very interesting that the men's clothes are so integrated to the colours of the environment.
All the best,
Ourania
