This is of course the Sydney Opera House taken at dawn in the presence of our friend Malgo (Emka) during the Australian Autumn. Although Malgo was only in Sydney for a few days, we had a lot of fun during that short time. I had worried that the weather would be no good, but Sydney Harbour put on a particularly impressive light display that morning. This view is taken from Campbell Cove, The Rocks.

Splendid presentation of this iconic building, under spectacular light and colours.
It sometimes take some visitors to become ourself a tourist in our own hometown, and that leads to a quality and brilliant work.
Have a great holiday seasons!

One of the best images ever of the famous Sydney icon, its roof lines like giant sails set within the vast water radiated by setting sun rays. Kowabunga!
Cheers from the opposite side of the World,

Ciao carissima amica mia,
batalay (33891) 2013-12-23 6:54
This is the most eye-catching view I've ever seen of the great Opera House. Apparently, you are looking east. The photo reminds of me of the silhouettes of the sails of several traditional dowe sailing boats, maneuvering to get into line at at regatta.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
snunney (75104) 2013-12-23 7:10
Wow, that fiery early morning sky is quite something. It makes the perfect backdrop to the unmistakeable lines of the opera house. Superb colours and clarity. All the best for Christmas and New Year!
yquem46 (37514) 2013-12-23 7:42
A good shot of the Sydney icon under a splendid dawn sky. That was not to be missed !
Bravo, have a nice day and a merry Xmas, whatever in AUS or Napoli

nice souvenir of your small TE meeting (only 2 persons!), superb picture at the pink/orange hour, with the elegant opera.
williewhistler (10899) 2013-12-23 8:35
now this is just what I need,it`s been raining here since I can`t remember when and I can`t help thinking that maybe, just maybe I should be in Parramatta...
This is a lovely morning shot, the first light colours are gorgeous and of course SOH makes a perfect subject at any time of day,the sails are exposed perfectly, lovely shot.
Did you need any ND filters on this?
Kindest wishes Les.

I do not know how long you had waited for such an opportunity, Lisa, but you had found it: The ultimate dawn photo across the bay and over the beautiful Opera of Sydney.
Superb golden light and orange tone under the clouds, charming and yet imposing.
Adorable scene, reflection and exp. time.
My best holidays greetings,
timecapturer (40290) 2013-12-23 9:06
a purple and pink hour shot this. With stunning clarity and such a beautifully soothing ambience about it. Looks so calm and tranquil, unlike here where we are getting ready for yet another big storm tonight, with gales and horizontal rain. Deep joy! Good job Santa is not delivering tonight he would probably break the sound barrier. Ho! Ho! Goooooooooo!
macjake (48357) 2013-12-23 10:17
now thats a beauty!
Malgo got super lucky I suppose?
love the purples, the pinks, and any other wacky color that we see here.
Guess I'll see this some day :)
Merry Xmas to you and your family, hope all is well.
craig and tosca
SnapRJW (26134) 2013-12-23 11:22
Sublime pinks, apricots and mauves Lisa and a wonderful shot of the Opera House and yes, Malgo was lucky. To see a sight like this must have been so exciting.I love the promise that the dawn of a new day brings and here with the lightening horizon and under-lit clouds the promise is there.
I wish you, your family and loved ones a blessed Christmas. Rosemary
emka (67325) 2013-12-23 11:53
Thank you very much for this shot but above all, for your wonderful hospitality in Sydney. These two (only!) days were marvelous). I was very lucky - to see Sydney Opera in this light and to be there with you (and your tripod) was unforgettable experience. And how much fun we had there, specially with Vegemite the next morning:). Sorry you got up so early, much earlier than me, but we were both rewarded with splendid shots.
I wish you wonderful Christmas with family, full of peace, love and joy.
Finally I bought a new tripod and I go everywhere with it, even with small hand luggage. And I use it when necessary.
rigoletto (33751) 2013-12-23 12:00
hoo hoo hoo!
one doesn't need to love opera, architecture or photography to enjoy this one, this is fantastic! the colors might be unbelievable for naive eyes, but i know they are real. same colors i had seen in edinburgh seaside, it was a sunset, but i am afraid to upload it here, as the people will think it is much saturated, even though it is not. anyways, let's thank to malgo for the early bird singing.
tenretin (1161) 2013-12-23 13:31
You made a great shot there with beautiful colors.
Well done and thank you for sharing.
I wish you a happy holiday season.
carlo62 (22375) 2013-12-23 13:54
Malgo è stata molto fortunata a trovare un'alba così in due soli giorni, ma la fortuna non basta, bisogna anche essere bravi per ottenere questi risultati.
L'acqua è fantastica e le sfumature di colore sono meravigliose.
Bravissima come sempre
lousat (67159) 2013-12-23 14:06
siudzi (29053) 2013-12-23 14:48
Wow! What a view here! The fantastic warm palette of colors of the sky made the scene really magical and special! I am sure that Malgo loved the view a lot! Perfectly executed work. Bravo!
tyro (16768) 2013-12-23 17:15
Ciao cara Lisa,
Obviously the gods were pleased with either yourself or Malgo (but most probably both of you!) and blessed you with some wonderful light at sunrise this particular morning.
The light and the colours are stunning and one thing I really love about your pictures is that in cases such as this you do not make any attempt to "gild the lily" by going overboard with saturation and contrasts - this looks totally believable and I'm sure that this is exactly what you saw when you pressed the button.
Gorgeous light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Have a Wonderful and Peaceful Christmas!

Wow, the good lord certainly had his paint brush out that morning, and what a display that was put on! the colors and lights in the sky are incredible, like something from another world, and of course what a bonus to have this architectural icon in the center. You have captured a truly spectacular scene here Lisa, with beautiful soft light and color in the reflection, and the sky itself looking like a particularly artistic fire. A beauty to be sure (to be sure)
Agus am amháin deiridh sula dtagann Santa, deis dom mian leat ar na Nollag an-Merry. Tá súil agam go bhfuil rudaí go maith ar do shon séasúr seo Lisa. How could anyone ever tire of this magnificent icon and viewpoint, this is just gorgeous! What captivating architecture and style, and when captured with a sky and reflection like that...wow! One of these days, one of these days I tell ya', I will make it there to see it with my own eyes! Greta title too, that makes me chuckle. :) Here's to a very Merry Christmas and fun filled holiday season, wishing you the absolute best mate! Be good, and don't overdo it on the eggnog! ;)
Cheers, my fellow vulgarian.
ChrisJ (92128) 2013-12-24 11:06
I dont know which is worse. Freezing my tail off or sweating and melting in the humid summer heat? Anyway I elected to stay put and look after another teachers house and pets so she could go on a vacation over the holiday break. I don't feel left out because I had more than enough travel through 8 countries just a few months ago. One of these days I will have to rediscover my own country! It's been decades since I've been outside Mascot or Tullamarine. Oh, the photo! Love the reflections and the profiled view of the iconic Opera house. A superb sunset with impeccable sharpness and lovely warm cold colour contrasts between the pink and blue. Interesting cloud patterns and the long time exposure has given a soft silky look to the water as well as starbursts on the lights. Tfs and have a safe and happy Christmas New Year break. You're allowed to have some vino too!

I can confirm now that Malgo carries her tripod everywhere. Sadly while visiting me in M'bro we did not have such a beautiful object to photograph. The light was not that great either.
It is a very impressive picture and the light was truly extraordinary. The Opera provides a wonderful silhouette to be set against this spectacular sky.
Have a wonderful Christmas Lisa!

Hello dear Lisa,
a very beautiful picture, so well defined, sleek and mesmerizing. I like very much how the iconic building stands out as a silhouette but also with fine details and textures, amid a wonderful palette of warm colours. You managed the early morning light and the fascinating colours with great artistic instinct and technical skill. The atmosphere is invigorating and just exquisite. Congratulations and thank you!

So Beautiful I'm speechless, can't even find anything naughty to say.
Just sitting back and enjoy it for a few moment longer.

A wonderful combination of bluish and pinkish colours in the sky and in the water while the sails of the Opera House beautifully act as an almost-silhouette.
What a gorgeous morning!
Best regards, Paul
