ENGLISH: Living anywhere, when you see things every day, you tend to take them for granted. You forget just how special they are. I know this is a bit postcardy, but I decided to try looking at my city as a tourist would. This is a view of the Sydney Central Business District and the Opera House, taken from the north side of the Harbour at Milsons Point.

Anybody would be pleased to receive a postcard like this:-) A lovely panoramic view from your home town. Perfectly exposed and with superb colours and sharpness.
fabbs99 (16167) 2012-11-13 3:51
The shot is remarkable having excellent sharpness and clarity even in lowlights. The colors are deep and the details and the folds are excellently expressed.
Excellent composition, good presentation too. Very well done, TFS.

sevy (15363) 2012-11-13 5:59
Is it the skytrak left by Superman we are seeing in the sky?
Out of the joke related to the title, you got a very nice blue hour shot.
The croping toward panoramic frame is providing at the end a balanced composition.

What a wonderfull city. A dream for me. This is the kind of photo everybody want to take one day. The blue hour is superb and I like the effect of the long exposure on the water.
Have a nice day

Beautiful blues Lisa and your crop is perfect for the linear look of the city. Did you enjoy playing tourist? For me who has never set foot in Sydney, I am quite impressed by the size of the Opera House in comparison to the down town area. Is it built on a spit of land and that much closer to your vantage point? As usual fine exposure management but do I detect a very faint halo around some of the buildings?
Warmest wishes rosemary
bayno (18342) 2012-11-13 7:18

This city is so impressive and wonderful. And the quality of your post is excellent. Bravo!!!
Have a nice evening,
macjake (56656) 2012-11-13 8:43
So what country are you visiting from? lol
I hear that Canada is nice lol
glad to see you use the rule of thirds along the bottom portion, glad to see the horizon line, and glad to see the blues!!!! lots n lots of blues!
oh..and glad to see you left IN the trailing lights or exhaust from that plane...its natural, so leave it in. Alot of people feel the need to clone those things out, same thing with telephone wires and cable wires. Unless its 100% disrupting the main subjects, leave them IN!
Love the blue steel look!

I think if lived here I would never make it to work, as I would see this view, stop, and spend the day taking billions of shots :) it is fantastic, and nothing wrong with a postcard shot, if I seen this on a postcard carousel, I'd reach for it,buy it and truth be told probably bring it home and frame it. Wonderful shot, it must be so cool to have such a skyline.
By the way, do you know they released Timtams in Ireland a few years back? Everybody I know was addicted and then they stopped selling them. I suspect a very clever plan by the Australian tourist board. Come for the scenery, people and nightlife, stay for the timtams.
All the best

This city must be fantastic and your photos give me the desire to visit...Someday perhaps...!!!
Anyway, here is another view very nice with all these shades of blue.

Hi Lisa, this is a very good picture of this lovely and interesting view of the city at the blue hour. A nice picture very well composed and framed, with good view, great clarity, depth, light and color. Very good job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing.
Good night and happy week.

Ciao cara Lisa,
Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buona giornata,

A beautiful and iconic view of Sydney at blue hour
Well composed, extremely clear
Have a nice day, cheers

I was really happy with your reaction on my last picture, like a nice backslap it was,:=]]and why not, what wrong with that??
Do we have to be ""constructive""all the time?.NO we are here for having fun and enjoy each others work, and as I see this one,you certainly go for it !
The ultimate Sydney skylines, unfortunattely I got stucked into WA in 1985 for half a year, nothing wrong with that,so I never made it up to the east...
TE has certainly quality,if you want to open your eyes a bit more for it!
sabermonajati (9549) 2012-11-13 13:38

Ciao cara Lisa,
I really don't think that there's anyhing wrong with a picture which looks like (or which would make a very fine) postcard any more than there is in a picture which someone would choose to grace the top of a biscuit box or a box of chocolates. Just a very fine picture: simple as that.
And this is a lovely one. Perhaps you feel that it lacks "imagination" or "originality" or whatever but it is a classic view, taken in the most wondeful light and totally impeccable in its quality - exposure, colours, sharpness - everything is spot-on.
If this picture has any failing it is because the size limitations here don't allow justice to be done to it - if we were to see this picture larger and with a bigger file size, it would appear stunningly better, I am sure.
So, Lisa, why not upload a bigger picture to another site and add a link to it in your note? Didi and others do that and I've recently done it with a couple of mine. Why not try "Panoramio" - it's free too and it also has the added advantage that you can "locate" the picture with co-ordinates. The picture will appear (and stay) on Panoramio but, after it is assessed by their moderators and if it passes muster, it will be placed on Google Earth for all to see when they look at that location.
Would you believe it, but Panoramio also has size restrictions on uploaded pictures - a maximum of 50 megapixels and 25 MB!! Not bad, eh?

mkamionka (30636) 2012-11-14 9:01
spectacular panorama. I know for your ambition it may be challenging enough but this is something I dream about doing if I ever get down under.
Perfect blue hour. The plane taking off is the extra bonus.
ktanska (24758) 2012-11-14 11:16
Nothing against postcards, those are pictures that people like to but. And I send a lot of those myself.
You got beautiful electric blue on this. Comparing to original, PP is quite successful. I saw some posterisation effect on the sky on my work monitor, but here at home it's hardy visible.
Ths could have been a good candidate for a large panorama upload, I haven't seen those for a while.
ACL1978 (7467) 2012-11-14 17:52
Nothing wrong with a nice postcard shot, Lisa - and this is a very nice one, a glowing blue hour shot that's been managed perfectly. The faint reflections on the water are gorgeous additions, as is the glow coming from behind the skyline itself. Unquestionably a sense here of vanishing light. And I note that you very much favor the Opera House in these lighting conditions - understandable! I don't know that I've seen a shot of it at night that wasn't taken by you and posted here...

Hi Lisa, Very effective with dark blue sea water and sky with a slice of light between. The one plane trail adds to its dynamics. TFS. Murray
willperrett (7080) 2012-11-15 1:41
If it's postcard time, this is definitely a superior version! The time of day and that lovely light in the sky, captured at a very long exposure, has made this sharp, contrasty image a stand-out. It'll be at the top of every postcard rack...
PS Fritz Lang would have killed for colour like this!
dkmurphys (49372) 2012-11-15 2:12
Perfect postcard with your amazing city. The quality is just about your skill to manage the camera. Good work!
sacavem (18610) 2012-11-15 8:10
The 30s of exposure are giving nice texture to the water.Pleasant composition, beautiful colours. I like silky water surface with small reflections. Excellent blue hour shot.
krzychu30 (15498) 2012-11-16 3:48
I do not think that such marvelous view could ever become common to me.For me Sydney has definitely one of the most beautiful and most recognizable skylines in the world. And I guess I could stand there(probably together with Noel:)and admire it for hours. Also the blue hour seems to be the best time to capture such scene as the blue sky contrasts so lovely with illuminated skyscrapers.another highlight in your composition is for me the vapour trail of the plane cutting the sky.Gorgeous photo!
Have a nice weekend
mesutilgim (84442) 2012-11-16 5:52

Hello Lisa! Excellent look tourist, this photo stands out very well.the blue night coverage really adds alot to the scene, gives a buffer for the royal blue sky and sea, the sharpness and overall quality of the subjects are very good.Bravo
Didi (56915) 2012-11-16 9:07
Nice view on the big city
It was posssible to make a panoramic large version
The waters looks iced by the long time pause.
