Last year (2008) I went to the Eastern Creek Raceway (near Blacktown - Sydney) to watch people drive V8 race cars. People, like you and me, can walk off the street and pay to drive a V8 race car for three laps around the circuit. Of course there is about one hour of theory, polocies & procedures which you must listen too prior to them allowing you to get in one of their V8s and tear around the track (with a professional race driver seated with you in the passenger seat).
I grabbed this shot while a group were waiting for next drive. You can feel the tension and pressure coming from the would be drivers while the nervously wait their turn to get into the driver seat.

Did you have a go? The guy where you've got the focus on looks like he's praying. The guy behind him has got mountain shoes on?! Those are not the best for racing! How much is it, do you know?

I wonder, looking at the scene here, what is on everybody's mind except this photographer?
I know the photographer is only keen to click the best moment of the start precious moment for a race.
But everybody else is thinking otherwise, their mind on only the tense split second.

This is a good freeze of time and great DOF point to see the expression on the guys face.

Real interesting composition with a very good use of the lenses focusing to the guys in the centre of the z edge.
Best regards Graham

The dof in this photo really works well - I notice the guy in focus seems tense. Your photo really does convey his nervousness and the colours are brilliant. Have a nice New Year and tfs, Marlene
