same as in yesterday's post - year 2008 going away with style and burning all the bridges behind. simple sunset scene form backroads of Massachusetts near Connecticut river. the colour of the sky is exactly how I saw it, no increase in saturation.
RAW, ISO 320, 95mm focal length, spot metering.

Awesome abstract shot, wonderful colours. Nature is such a great artist...
I particularly like the frame - strong and subtle at the same time.
Thanks for sharing, best wishes

this is a beautiful and spectacular photos, with excellent graphics effect caused by arms against, and with a beautiful red color of the sky.
Have a great weekend.

Really nice, Kristine, you certainly have a photographic eye for this sort of unusual but striking compositions.
parbo (11092) 2009-01-09 7:17
Very nice, I'm hiding all my reddish photos from everyone, but you are shocking us while posting more beautiful one every day ;)
Excellent timing for fantastic reddish lights and of course your creative view of silhouettes of naked tree branches. Splendid textures, congratulations. Have a nice weekend.
zmey (7335) 2009-01-09 7:53
the sky is burning... :)) that red goes very well with the black of the silhouettes and your frame. quite some festival!

Amazing picture. Fascinating color of the sky behind the black silhouettes. Regards.

Hi, Kristine -
I don't normally like crowds of bare tree branches, but I have to admit that there is a nice symmetry to this view, especially with that gap right in the center. And of course the red everywhere makes it an unusual picture in its own right.
Your discussion with Ertugrul inspired me to post this morning's contribution, though it's nowhere near as red as this!

Wow! This image is on fire! Love it!
Spectacular effect of this natural graphic work.
Very well see 'fiery work' Kristine ! :)

Looks like a batik pattern on an African dress, very colorful and exotic for a Northerner like me..
a good spring for a vit of warm in the winter chilled blue image tones.

i am not keen on sunset but this one is quite appealing, certainly because of the tree's curtain , black and red works well together.
Bartleby (13532) 2009-01-09 15:34
A fiery red sky...it's hard to believe there was no increase in saturation here. Must be quite a show with your own eyes. I like how you turned this into a graphic shot.
jimkilgallon (0) 2009-01-09 20:54
Just not a simple sunset, abstract as your title says, the deep blacks and intense reds are a treat for the eyes. I like how you covered the whole frame with the trees and it is very sharp all over for the f/5.6 used. The black border was a right decision, certainly looks more contrasty with it on. Brilliant work as usual, keep it up.
jorgi (3810) 2009-01-09 23:58
Oh my my....I cannot believe my eyes...
She went sunsetting! :)
Just listen to me...such a hypocrite. As if I never photographed a sunset before.
Wonderful Kristine, simply amazing. It must have been overwhelming getting this blast of red in your face. I know for sure I would be stunned. Never witnessed such red one in my life. But I wanna to. And capture every single second of it.
I can easily imagine it being captured from the balcony of my home. Trees are perfect match...

That is a wonderful graphical impact you get here by reducing these trees to silouettes and not showing the tops but just one wall of trees with that light behind it. Nice one.
Have a good weekend,

A great shot to ring in the new year with the silhouetted trees symbolizing the past and the golden sky the coming year.
Very tastefully framed image.

WOW!!! What a great compo and these incredible strong colours...and trees looking like a perfect mosaic...great frame...
Superb! I really like it!
All the best,

Nice serie on sunset. This photo is more original than the previous one with the use of the alignment of trees to draw lines in the burning sky.
The end result is very graphical and a good example of focused landscape view.

I like very much the way you composed your picture. The patterns of the trees are like veins and the vibrant hues of the sky increase the feeling to be in front of the beat of life. I love the colors too.: orange, yellow, red, pink...the subtle varitions are gorgeous. A perfect frame and framing. Bravo!

Kristine, I missed this one I guess, it is awesome. The color and sharpness of detail is magic, great capture.
Merline (0) 2009-01-14 5:34
Only once I have seen something like this, many years ago, in Iceland (but with no trees:-). And no camera.
What to say ? The colors fantastic, and most specially the way you have composed this, verging on the abstract, it gives a much deeper impact than more classic landscapes. Could be a painting too, I hope to see more in this line, you are so talented with colors, I envy you.
Have a great week and thanks

Une composition que je trouve géniale. Un superbe coucher de soleil derrière ces silhouettes d'arbres aussi régulières, c'est super bien vu.

Lovely (hot) winter sky shot.
This kind of light can only be encountered in winter. A foreground with trees branches in black enhances the picture.

Kristine, I'm being a naughty girl and looking through your photos when I should be working....
This picture is exactly my cuppa tea :) I dig that you expertly captured what you saw, with no filters or polarizers, and didn't add or subtract any effects in "post production". I hope my photos are as good as this one when I grow up!
Thanks so much, and Happy Tuesday! Rachel

Too busy for new posting? I know it take some times.
Well, I'm going through some of your old post, while this one grab my attention for obviously reason. While it is pretty, I almost want to skip it, because it reminded me of all the fire we have annually in the falls when we have desert dry wind in California. May time the sky is litted up like this in the blue hours. Well it is spring now no worry. looking forward to your new post, and I can't wait to see your Utah trip pics.
