River Kaveri is also known as Cauvery (Lopamudra devi, Brahma's daughter, wife of Agastya Muni).River Kaveri originates at Talakaveri in the Western Ghats, Karnataka. It flows south and across the southern Deccan plateau through the southeastern lowlands. Kaveri makes a huge delta and empties into the Bay of Bengal. The legend of the Cauvery tells the tale of a girl called Lopamudra, the daughter of Brahma. However, Brahma allowed Sage Kavera-muni to adopt her. She resolved to become a river to purify all sins and to obtain blessings for her adoptive father. It is said that even Ganga resorts to going underground once an year to the source of the Kaveri, to purge herself from the pollution contracted from the crowd of sinners who have bathed in her waters.

Kaveri river is very important for people who can't make it to Ganges. All the rituals are performed here. When my parents died and were cremated, their ashes were dissolved here in Kaveri river.

Une belle scène de la vie quotidienne dans ce pays quoique je ne sois pas très sur de la qualité de l'eau pour se baigner. Il y a un peu trop d'ombre au niveau des visages.

A common event, as I read your note, Lakshmi - but not common at all to tourists comming to the rural areas in India.
An f10 exp. cause a bit of extra dark tone, but that's OK for the whole.

Hi Lakshmi,
It's nice to see that this custom still practise till this day. I would dip in this Kaveri river than in the Ganges river if its work the same. At least it's much cleaner and nicer to swim too.
I think it's not just for dipping...it's also for washing cloths too. I wonder it's all they DO in the river, nothing else, Lakshmi.-))))

ity is a pity the light was so harsh in that moment, anyway I liked the framing catching the structure of stones and people in their daily life. nice image.
