Stormy view from the north bank of the River Thames at the iconic Thames Barrier in Silvertown, London, England. Operational since 1982 the barrier was built 2 miles downstream of the Isle of Dogs (Canary Wharf) at a cost of £534M and is designed to prevent Central London from being flooded by high tides or storm/tidal surges moving in from the North Sea. There have been a record number of closures this year with 50 so far which is already twice as any other year since its completion.

A scene full of drama!
The Thames Barrier looks like something from Star Wars!
As always, a fine composition, perfectly sharp.
For me, the most attractive aspect is the reflected light on the surfaces of the barriers, giving a very 3D effect.
Have a great day,

un point de vue et une composition intéressants pour nous présenter ce barrage. Une belle luminosité et de beaux reflets qui donnent du relief à la photo malgré le temps gris et pluvieux pas vraiment estival...

I love these cool silver shining, reflections and colours on your capture. The surface of the Thames is wonderful.
The POV is superb too.
This is a futuristic-looking result. Great!

The light is great here and makes the barrier look like something out of a sci-fi movie. Moody and somewhat mysterious, with the panels reminding one of shimmering scales. An interesting composition, well done.

A superb capture of the Thames Barrier. Perfectly exposed to heighten the sense of drama. The light reflections on the silvery surfaces of the barrier are beautiful and fascinating at the same time.

A wonderful photograph of the iconic Thames Barrier taken in the most gorgeous light and a fine note to accompany it.
I'm thinking (after looking at your exif data too) that it probably wasn't quite as dark when you actually took this one as this picture appears to suggest. However, the light and the reflections here are stunning and make the structures stand out beautifully against the dark and threatening sky.
Gorgeous light and colours, fine composition, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

In the thumbnail it looks like a giant fantastic caterpillar! Impressive composition, very dramatic stormy colors... Good exposure, original photo work!

This is a really special shot Brian. I don't think I've seen a photograph of the Thames Barrier on TE before and this one is so good. The light and mood is dramatic and quite appropriate for the subject. I love the silvery and golden glints reflecting off the surfaces of the structure. Just magical... I wish it was in my gallery!

This barrier is known in the world and is a great achievement of human skills, beautiful documentary photo with a specific atmosphere

mysterious elements in the river with a fantastic touch of light on them.

This really looks like a scene from another planet, like alien spaceships staring into battle, ready to fight. The way the light is reflecting off the dappled surface here is truly beautiful, with hints of gold and purple and silver. Such regal colors for an alien invasion fleet.
A perfect compositn too capturing depth and intense drama in the sky. Beautiful shot, really nicely done.

bella e originale, questa serie di "case" del futuro sono molto curiose.
Fotograficamente incredibili, di grande effetto visivo e con interessanti riflessi.

Glad you enjoyed todays sun filled picture, but it looks as if it's yet to arrive on your shores...at least based on this picture. :) What a neat shot this, so futuristic looking with the metallic(?) surfaces. I think you might have another alien aircraft on your hands here. Love the processing work you've performed, the colors, light and mood are mysterious and dark....just like an alter-ego perhaps?? Has the Mother Ship called you home yet? lol
Moody and fascinating, but obviously practical and well needed to keep natures wrath at bay. It can't keep your lens away though, and for that, we all get to enjoy this compelling imagery. Very well done, creatively composed and presented.
Now, to the Isle of Dogs...is that literal? Sounds like a great place for someone like me who enjoys them...in fact, got another "sitting" job lined up for a few days starting Thursday. Woof! Enjoy the soon to arrive snatch of sun. (you dirty man you! hehe)
Cheers from the hot half,

Lumière magique sur ce fameux barrage sur la Tamise. Une photo de très grande qualité.
trevormoffiet (3112) 2014-08-20 1:49
Its all about the light they say. This one is a good demonstration of that meme. However, the composition is also important and well managed here. I love the contrast of the dark sky with the silvery reflections of the barrier.
chawax (19392) 2014-08-20 2:41
Excellent shot ! The POV is excellent and the stormy weather makes a fantastic light on these silver structures.
dta (66620) 2014-08-20 2:47
hello Brian ,
A quite futurist an dramatic atmosphere in this outstanding capture of the Thames barrier .
CLODO (30256) 2014-08-20 6:09
A dramatic picture due to the dark grey tones enhanced by the golden reflections.
shreya2000 (1134) 2014-08-20 6:21
Excellent picture shared by you. Very nice composition and colours are also very good.
macjake (56590) 2014-08-20 8:34
another sweet shot from London.
i'll have to check out this place, that list of places to check out in London is GROWING at a rapid pace! haha
love the silvery tones, the hdr type of look and feel to it, the progression of the subject in the frame, and the overall moody atmosphere.
kasianowak (6463) 2014-08-21 3:13
I love this low key view of the Barrier! Delightful dark sky and it's reflection in water makes it unique.
willperrett (7040) 2014-08-21 10:48
What fantastic light: I guess it's a mix of daylight and sodium? Your "antediluvian" image works brilliantly: so moody and malevolent. It looks like a shiny, scaly sea creature.
dekanski (3304) 2014-08-21 13:53
I have no words! Astonishingly light, brilliant composition!
npecanhuk (65530) 2014-08-21 19:49
I think those structures are unique and very interesting! A superb subject for excellent pictures and that's the case here!
Special regards to the exposure, colors and composition!
TFS - congrats,
siudzi (33609) 2014-08-24 1:34

I heard about those Thames-barrier, but never saw the place, not in real nor onm picture. An excelent shot, especially with the beautiful light it glow with, a mettalic tone contrast to grey sky.
Impressive photojob, marvelousely conveyed.
Have a nice Sunday afternoon.
annjackman (19635) 2014-08-28 3:50
This is the best picture of the Thames Barrier that I have seen. The dramatic light gives it a very futuristic look although it was constructed some time ago. The shiny surfaces, the reflections in the river and the dark sky come together to make a first class and original shot.
Kind Regards, Ann.
maltese (22853) 2014-08-28 10:00
La lumière sue la barrière est vraiment superbe et les reflets métallique sont de toute beauté.
