Photographer's Note

These beautiful balloons are actually very ingenious flying apparatus. They consist of three main parts: the burner, which provides heat for lift; the basket for carrying the pilot and crew and instruments; and the nylon envelope for holding the air for buoyancy. Much of the work in ballooning occurs during launch and landing. Here in my photo we see three balloons lifted into air by using the burners fueled by propane to heat air to lift the balloon envelope. It is so magical to see them take flight and soar in the air.
