Glenn Edward McDuffie, sailor in iconic Times Square ‘kiss’ photo at end of WWII, dies at 86.
McDuffie, who passed away Sunday in Texas, had once said he was motivated to randomly kiss the pretty nurse on the day Japan surrendered because it meant his brother would be getting released from a Japanese prison camp.

A wonderful tribute and a finely composed shot Eleu. The kissing couple dressed in wartime clothes and the naval ship beyond have a real nostalgic look.
TFS and warm regards

very nice the placement of the statue with the kiss of the sailor to the pretty nurse in the frame, with the aircraft carrier to dominating on the backdrop of the image.
The photographer on the right adds scale in the scene.

A beautiful tribute to an iconic photo, Eleu - thanks for the information, I was unaware Mr. McDuffie had passed away. I'm in the middle of teaching WWII to my juniors, so I'll be sure to bring this up on Monday!
An interesting story about the origins of that kiss, including the identities of the people involved here:

there couldn´t be more appropriate backdrop for the scene and this sculpture.
I like its unique mood you´ve captured so well as well as excellently considered frame with another photographer to give us the sense of scale for both objects.
Have a nice weekend

A giant statue of probably the most recognized end of WWII 'kiss', and a fitting background with the aircraft carrier.
I had seen this statue some years ago while visiting Sarasota, Florida. And hope to see it again in person.
Thanks for sharing,

Hello Eleu, I remember this famous photo but I haven't know there is a monument. And so big one and in colours. Luckily there was this photographer and we can imagine the scale. Excellent composition, good tribute to the hero.
Warm regrads MAlgo

Wow! I hadn't realized this statue was so big! The photographer at right sure shows the scale! Good profiled view with excellent sharpness. Superb color, saturation and framing. The bg warship makes a superb prop reminiscent of the WW2 battleships. Tfs1

haha...one of the most famous photographs ever!
and wow...is it really that large? the man standing on the right is so tiny in comparison - I just realized that.
having the ship in the bg is sweet too...very
san diego-like :)

I had no smilies left the other day, but this definitely deserves one. This is a highly original monument but a lot more interesting than most others. The contrast between the kissing couple and the man with the camera is hilarious. This is a very catchy and entertaining shot.

I thought that the famous photo was staged. But anyway it is an unforgettable masterpiece. I also noticed that news on our local newspaper.
That statue is an excellent reproduction of that scene and it has a logical place on a naval harbour. Your framing is excellent with that aircraft in the background.

a very attractive representation of the iconic scene, this sculpture is surely a point of reference in the huge port. I like very much your composition. You placed the sculpture very thoughtfully at the side of the frame and the background is meaningful and intriguing. The colours are beautiful, the chromatic harmony is a delightful quality and makes the whites and the skin tones stand out superbly. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

An excellent image superbly composed and like the juxtaposition between the couples and the apparent carrier and the sharp shooter. Amazing light and colours well worth the time and effort. Congrats
