Photographer's Note

This "Pound Paradise" is housed in the former butchery department of the Pendleton Cooperative Industrial Society building. It is a listed building , described as "mixed classical and Art and Crafts style". It has red brick with glazed brick and yellow and green faience dressings. "Faience" is not a word I have come across before and my Collins English Dictionary definition says "a tin glazed earthenware, usually that of French, German or Italien origin".
This particular building is very familar to me as I grew up in the area. I thought to post this after seeing TE member "Royaldevon"'s photo taken at Salford Quays. Salford Quays ( where the BBC is now based) is the rejuvenated, modernised Salford. This is the old.You can read more about The Cooperative Society's history here and there's plenty on wikipedia.
PS The lad caught in shot crossed the road and asked if I had him in the frame. He said he thought I should be paying him for the privilege. Typically sparky Salford kid!
